Reverend Ref +: Texas Shootout
http://reverendref.blogspot.com/2015/05/texas-shootout.html
Sunday, May 17, 2015. Posted by Reverend Ref. From the NYT this evening:. Nine people were killed Sunday. And others injured after a shootout erupted among rival biker gangs at a Central Texas restaurant, sending patrons and bystanders fleeing for safety, a police spokesman said, according to The Associated Press. How's that open carry working out for y'all? 6:33 AM, May 18, 2015. The worst of it is that the owner of the bar *invited* them there! First time comments will be moderated. 3) If you would lik...

Reverend Ref +: Maybe he was right
http://reverendref.blogspot.com/2015/08/maybe-he-was-right.html
Saturday, August 01, 2015. Maybe he was right. Posted by Reverend Ref. In my last post I talked about the homeless guy who came into my office worried about the people speaking in numerals about numbers and something about 47 being evil. I gave him a prayer for protection, a bottle of water and sent him on his way. I didn't think too much about it at the time - I've heard many people ramble on about all sorts of odd things. But then I saw this. Maybe he was right. 4:16 PM, August 01, 2015. 3) If you woul...

Sunday, July 19, 2015. Sermon; 8 Pentecost/Proper 11B; Mark 6:30-34, 53-56. Posted by Reverend Ref. Sometimes one wonders what the designers of the RCL were thinking. Today's gospel passage seems like a desperate mash up of gospel stories because the committee didn't know exactly what to choose next. This mini-retreat, however, was not to be. People saw where they were headed and beat them to their destination. We could look at this scene and think it's a case of paparazzi gone wild. But ther...Last week...

Reverend Ref +: Back in Montana
http://reverendref.blogspot.com/2015/07/back-in-montana.html
Thursday, July 23, 2015. Posted by Reverend Ref. Mrs Ref and I traveled back to Montana yesterday. This is part vacation and part celebration for an ordination. When I was Vicar of Christ Church, a deacon showed up to service one Sunday. Her daughter had just become the vet for the valley, and she and her husband were looking at some vacation housing to spend time with their grandkids. Turns out they stayed. And this trip reminded me of this. Enjoy. 5:05 PM, July 23, 2015. A Few Words About Comments.

Reverend Ref +: Weird Wednesday
http://reverendref.blogspot.com/2015/07/weird-wednesday.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. Posted by Reverend Ref. You may remember a few weeks ago when I had the pleasure of dealing with the bi-polar alcoholic that ran the gamut from sitting with him in a parking lot from midnight to about 1:15 am, taking him to the hospital, listening to him rant about how he hated me and the church while also proclaiming that we were the only place who cared about him. I dubbed that event, "Manic Monday.". Do you know what that means? No, I really haven't. What is it about 47? So I ...

Reverend Ref +: Home
http://reverendref.blogspot.com/2015/07/home.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Posted by Reverend Ref. Mrs Ref and I are back home from out trip to Montana, and it was glorious! We arrived in a rainstorm, but that cleared up the next day and we had daytime temps in the upper '70's to low '80's up until the day we left, when it began to rain again. And speaking of improvements . . . the former parish. Friday we had the rehearsal and Saturday was the ordination. It was spectacular, with about 120-130 people attending. There were thirteen clergy there, ...First...

http://reverendref.blogspot.com/2015/08/sermon-10-pentecostproper-13b-john-624.html
Sunday, August 02, 2015. Sermon; 10 Pentecost/Proper 13B; John 6:24-35. Posted by Reverend Ref. Last week we heard John's version of the feeding of the 5000. With that reading we began a five week odyssey through John 6 that we call the Bread of Life series. Over those five weeks we move from everyone wanting to crown Jesus king to people falling away because the words of Jesus are hard. He reminds the crowd that, despite the fact that five loaves and two fish fed 5000 people, it is temporary. Even m...

Reverend Ref +: Sermon; 11 Pentecost/Proper 14B; John 6:35, 41-51
http://reverendref.blogspot.com/2015/08/we-are-smack-dab-in-middle-of-what-is.html
Sunday, August 09, 2015. Sermon; 11 Pentecost/Proper 14B; John 6:35, 41-51. Posted by Reverend Ref. This is where we are today: Jesus is trying to address the complaints and explain this whole “bread of life” thing. First, the complaints. The people complain about Jesus because he makes the claim that he is from heaven and it is he who will feed the people. And, like those in his home town who rejected him, they also put constraints and limits on him because they claim to know him. Ancient Israelites ate...
