The development of the road was determined by two factors: the Kennet and Avon Canal, which reached the old road to Claverton (now called Bathwick Hill) in 1800 and then opened through to the Avon in November 1810, and the residential development of the Bathwick area. Two Cemeteries are located at the end of our road. Set in the beautiful Smallcombe Vale, both are now closed for burials but remains tranquil places to visit. The memorial stones are of special interest to us as many of the former residents are buried here. To find out if we have located the memorial for a particular former resident, or all the residents so far found for a particular building, use the links in Section 1.
