All ye that come my grave to see. November 7, 2016. Vault of William Carss. Carwar Avenue, Carss Park, Blakehurst. The vault of William Carss is a rarity in Sydney. It is one of the few vaults built on a family estate that survives intact. Despite its pretty location and its rarity, it didn’t make the final cut of my field guide. Well, technically, this is not a cemetery – it’s a family vault. But it is. Inscription on the top of the vault. (photo: Mark Dunn). The property remained in the family until th...

Words and images from home and away. Delhi: the same dust. An expeditious trip to India in February for a symposium and launch of Welsh missionaries and British imperialism. In Shillong in Meghalaya, and some seminars in Delhi. I hadn’t been to Delhi previously, knowing it only vaguely from the pages of Dalrymple (though I have just started reading City of Djinns.
