I just got me a letter from the History and Philosophy of Science department at my uni, informing me that they'd decided to accept my PhD application. Apparently I have until February to decide whether or not I'm going to do it. I wonder how long until the Psychology one shows up.

I've just had a little wander down into the Grose Valley (Blue Mountains, west of Sydney) for a couple of days. The goal of the trip was to check out the Blue Gum Forest. Birthplace of the Australian conservation movement and one of only a handful of contenders for my favourite place on the planet (others would be the Mutitjulu waterhole. And Woodford Folk Festival.

Time for one more bit of academic dickwaving: I got my scholarship. 20,000/year, tax-free, to do any PhD I want. And I'm allowed to earn a bit on top of that as well (probably tutoring). I've been accepted into both PhD's that I applied for; I've got until late February to make up my mind. Psychopharmacology is in the lead at the moment, but that's probably going to swing back to History and Philosophy of Science at least once before February. I still may end up tossing a coin in the end. Data analysis is excellent.".
