Tuesday, 2 August 2011. Civilian Volunteers, Civil Defence, Propaganda, Resources and Rationing - War Years 1939-1945. Soldiers were never very keen on kit inspections, it was a boring routine. After Dunkirk, many of these soldiers were back in England a few months later, when France collapsed. A great many of these Territorial Army soldiers spent the rest of the war years in German prisoner of war camps. Another Ministry of Information poster that appeared everywhere was the wording "Coughs and Sneezes ...

Monday, 1 August 2011. Popular Music and Radio Broadcasts - The War Years 1939-1945. Glen Miller was not only a great dance orchestra, he also produced great swinging numbers, two of these remain my favourite records today, the "Anvil Chorus" and "Tail End Charlie". Brentwood Reflections: The Family Doctor
http://brentwoodreflections.blogspot.com/2011/07/family-doctor.html
Sunday, 31 July 2011. In the 1930’s my Doctor was Doctor Miller who kept surgery in Warley Hall on the corner of Avenue Road. His able dispenser was Mr. Warner who applied all the dressings to your wounds. Mr. Warner was a very friendly man but if you cried when removing dressings, he would tell you not to be a cry-baby, that was to boys of course. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Thursday, 4 August 2011. Motor Car Dealers and Garages from the 1930s and 1940s. Garages were plentiful, "Rippons" in Brentwood High Street was one of the larger premises, with a showroom and a repair workshop which went back half the length of St. Thomas‘ Road, I remember the floor being black with solid grease. Many a Brentwood school leaver served their Motor Mechanic apprenticeship at the garage. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Outdoor Swimming Pool in North Road. One familiar sight in Brentwood ...
