Born 1962 in Mannheim, Germany, I studied biology and received a PhD in neuroscience at the university of Freiburg/Breisgau. My artistic interest developed in parallel with my research work. My artistic skills are completely autodidactic. Starting with the design and construction of individual light objects and lamps in the 1980 s, I continued with photography, sculpture and furniture collages. Solo show at Ferme Holleken, Linkebeek; Belgium. Project13a, group exhibition at Den Blank, GC Overijse; Belgium.

As I love to work with my hands, I am not only challenged to create in two dimensions like in photography. The added spatial dimension and the haptic experience in constructing an object makes the creative process more complex and active. Having always been strongly influenced by the sea, found materials such as driftwood, stones or bones became my main material. The composition of these materials reflects the same intention of converting a bland and overseen reality to a pure object of interest.

Light objects sculpture with a function. Originally I started building lamps from unusual or recuperated materials such as metal, glass, Perspex, wires etc. Detaching objects from their usual context is my way to focus on their interesting qualities (such as structure, material, symbol ). Having spent a substantial part of my life at the seaside, collecting driftwood became another natural and versatile source of material. In addition to lighting I also use it for furniture.
