Femmonite: July 2015
http://www.femmonite.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Feminist. mennonite. writer. Friday, July 3, 2015. I dared to hope that the decisions in yesterday’s delegate sessions at #MennoCon15. Would surprise me. They did not. Yet last night I felt as stunned and hurt as if I had actually believed a better outcome was possible, as if I was shocked the Membership Guidelines resolution. Passed, as if I had expected better of my church. Perhaps it is only that I wish I could. Love should never feel like a lost cause. You are scared. I can see that; anyone can s...

But enough about that. Søren Kierkegaard: A Biography. Joakim Garff (this sucker is over 800 pages and I am afraid I may never finish it). Carrier Snyder: get this novel and read it, now. 8220;Stranger in the Village,” in Notes of a Native Son. The Writer on Her Work. Ta-Nehisi Coates on the history of the confederate flag.

Femmonite: lightness has a call that's hard to hear

Feminist. mennonite. writer. Friday, June 12, 2015. Lightness has a call that's hard to hear. I'm trying to tell you somethin' about my life. Maybe give me insight between black and white. And the best thing you've ever done for me. Is to help me take my life less seriously. It's only life after all. Good ol’ Uncle Søren. In certain circles, studying his work isn’t going to make you any friends, but I like sitting at that table. Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable. I'm crawling on your shores.

Femmonite: Uprooted and Sent
http://www.femmonite.com/2015/05/uprooted-and-sent.html
Feminist. mennonite. writer. Monday, May 18, 2015. Chapel Hill Mennonite Fellowship. May 17, 2015: Seventh Sunday of Easter. Psalm 1, John 17:6-19. Psalm 1 compares the righteous to trees, the unrighteous to chaff driven away by the wind. This time of year especially this growth metaphor suits, as trees bloom and spring gardens start to bear fruit. It’s a season of newness, of life. Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked,. Or take the path that sinners tread,. They are like trees.

Feminist. mennonite. writer. Friday, March 6, 2015. Align Yourself With Love. I spent too long staring at a blank page this morning, trying to figure our what I want to say about the Just Church Resolution. Which was submitted earlier this week. Because honestly I just want to say AMEN! I think Joanna Harader sums up many thoughts and feelings. That I share when she writes:. I’ve signed on to this resolution, and I hope you will consider doing so, too. Causing trouble is sometimes godly work. If that is ...

Femmonite: January 2015
http://www.femmonite.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Feminist. mennonite. writer. Tuesday, January 27, 2015. A sermon for Chapel Hill Mennonite Fellowship, based on Jonah 3:1-5, 10. That part of the story, along with the verses in today’s lectionary text, are only part of the narrative, though. So let’s back up, and remember how it all began. At this point I should interrupt our narrative to say that, lately, Jonah is my favorite prophet. I would venture a guess that I am not the only one who has had “Jonah” moments in my life. He walks for a full day, abo...

Feminist. mennonite. writer. Monday, February 9, 2015. Citizen: An American Lyric. Those unfamiliar with the breadth of contemporary poetry may be surprised when they crack the cover of Claudia Rankine’s Citizen: An American Lyric. A collage of prose poems, short essays, and images, Citizen. Often reads more like experimental nonfiction than poetry. None of this is to decry the book’s merits; on the contrary, it is smart, finely crafted, as insightful as it is timely. Tuesday, February 3, 2015. To the co...
