Syntactic Sirup

Friday, October 26, 2007. I recently started using a small app for the mac called TaskPaper. Its basically a small todo list/outliner app, but with a big difference that sets it apart from the more complex competing products. Its file format is just plain text. in fact, its so plain that it's probably very similar to what you would use if you maintained the same kind of list using a plain text editor. Let me show you a little sample from my own todo list at work. Bundle for TaskPaper files is, but really...

Syntactic Sirup: TupleSoup, Part 4

http://www.syntacticsirup.blogspot.com/2007/01/tuplesoup-part-4.html

Wednesday, January 24, 2007. TupleSoup, Part 4. However, there is really no need for an update file either. A single data file and an index would serve my needs quite well. except, having two files brings us a new set of possibilities especially if we start viewing them as equals functionality wise. So from now on TupleSoup will store three files for each table: file-a, file-b and an index. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Brooklyn, United States. Syntactic Sirup: September 2007

Friday, September 7, 2007. TupleSoup, Part 6. I have just uploaded a new release of TupleSoup. Unless you have multiple threads accessing your data, there is no real benefit for you in this release. In fact, you are even required to change a few things in your source. sorry :-( .however, the possibilities these changes open for are really exciting, which will be what the rest of this post is about. Monday, February 26, 2007. Minimizing Id Size While Maximizing Readability. The last few posts have primarily been me bitching about things that annoy me, so I thought I would throw in a little happy-go-lucky constructive post with almost no bitching at all. And even provide you with a ready to use implementation in Java. So lets start talking about the implementation by looking at the way we would convert a number into a string. First, lets build an array of chars containing our 31 character set. String...

Syntactic Sirup: January 2007

http://www.syntacticsirup.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 29, 2007. TupleSoup, Part 5. I have now implemented simple data data engine which allows you to store, update and retrieve data. I do have a simple RowMatcher which can be used to select a subset of rows in a table based on the values of these data (think where clause in SQL) but I have no other functionality to work with a set of data instead of single rows. If you have read even a little bit about algorithms you have probably come across several sort algorithms. Such as bubble sort.

Delicious Dirt: February 2008

http://deliciousdirt.blogspot.com/2008_02_01_archive.html

Thursday, February 21, 2008. I'm currently staying at a Marriott hotel a bit outside of Chicago. I was hoping to get a bit of sightseeing done, but its extremely cold outside and I have been stuck in bed with a high fever for most of the week. However, I did spend some time playing around with some colored inks in the bathroom sink. Ink floating in water. Ink dripped on ice. The inks I used for these experiments are from Sennelier. I suspect you could get similar result with just about any kind of in...

Delicious Dirt: June 2008

http://deliciousdirt.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 26, 2008. For the past 15 years, I have been working very hard on improving my photography skills. The result of my efforts for the past couple of years can be seen on my flickr account. I found the basic technical side of photography quite easy. Aperture, shutter speed, iso, focal length and white balance. It's really not that hard to learn. The hard part has been getting my mind into a state where I actively think about these things every time I press the shutter. Well, not too bad. ...

Delicious Dirt: Holga Polaroids

http://deliciousdirt.blogspot.com/2007/10/holga-polaroids.html

Monday, October 29, 2007. In the past week, I have been experimenting with black and white Polaroids taken using my Holga with the Polaroid back. It can produce really great results, but man do I burn a lot of film trying to get the right exposure. Sometimes I almost wish the Holga had better manual controls, but then again thats just part of the charm. Sign over the Lazy Catfish in Brooklyn - ISO 400. Delicious Dirt: The Big Sellout!

http://deliciousdirt.blogspot.com/2008/02/big-sellout.html

Wednesday, February 6, 2008. I have never been unwilling to sell my art, but I haven't exactly tried to sell it either. Somehow, it has always felt like it wasn't quite ready. Lately however, I have been focusing very hard on a single style based on ink and watercolors. I have become so happy with the results that I have decided to start actively selling them. There are many places on the web that will allow you to sell your art in an easy way. I ended up choosing etsy.com. View my complete profile.
