Esra’a Al-Shafei builds online platforms and tools to promote free speech and social justice throughout the Middle East and North Africa. Outraged by the injustices she witnessed against minorities in her home country of Bahrain, Al-Shafei created Mideast Youth. In 2006 as a platform for open discussion on a wide range of taboos and underrepresented issues. Since then, the platform has been internationally recognized and has launched a number of other initiatives, including Ahwaa. The Battle for Home.
