Skip to main content. 1 Year of WordPress. During the year, I produced about 41 original posts. That’s less than 3.5 per month. And some of the posts are just random things, not even substantial. Output definitely too low, but hell, that’s the story of every web presence I’ve ever had. Happy WordPress anniversary, techslaves.org! It’s been a fun year. WxPython is Kicking my Ass! Now that I want to write a site-specific GUI-based LDAP management tool as referenced in a previous post. Hopefully I can share...

Skip to main content. LVM filters and initrd. Another “don’t make the same mistake I did” post, you say? I seem to be running into quite a few of these (semi) complex gotchas lately but I suppose they at least fuel techslaves with a bit of content which I can’t be too angry about these days. Ok that was an annoying sentence, my apologies. Let me recap:. Bad filters in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf that accidentally reject the device with your root filesystem. Install new kernel or rebuild initrd. What I did find int...

Skip to main content. Time Management with Trello. I have been using Trello. To manage my time, tasks and projects for several months now and it’s the most satisfied I’ve been with any particular tool to date. It’s simple. It’s easy. It’s generic enough to use for almost anything. Throughout my time using Trello, I’ve developed a framework to implement the processes that work best for me. These processes and habits are influenced and informed by the work of Tom Limoncelli in his classic “. When you’...

Skip to main content. Today, I’m on the brink of making another significant career move and career development is front and centre in my day to day thoughts. Hence, rant. IPad & Tablet Thoughts From Your Friendly Neighbourhood Irrelevant Internet Guy. I’m going to try to address various talking points I’ve been reading in articles, comments and blogs but don’t sue me if I miss anything. That’s right, you read it correctly: I’m not impressed with Books24x7. It’s their interface. I want to read some of the...

Skip to main content. FreeIPA and Samba 3 Integration. There are some basic assumptions that these instructions make. FreeIPA is installed and functional. You have a general idea of how to use LDAP command line tools. If you have a nice GUI LDAP browser, you can use it to apply the example LDIFs and edit the tree instead of the ldap CLI tools. The LDAP commands are executed on the FreeIPA server. Your LDAP suffix is. 8220;dc=domain,dc=tld”. Let’s not beat around the bush any further. With the directory m...

Skip to main content. Browsing Automounted NFS with Nautilus. Has browsing automounted NFS shares with nautilus got you pulling out hair in frustration? Ever since we transitioned from the RHEL4 environment to Fedora 14, people have been reporting terrible slowness and delays in nautilus when browsing our NFS shares. Reports of waiting over a minute for an NFS automount root-level directory with 100 sub directories to display the contents are not good. Apr 28 11:19:10 hostname automount[18959]: attemptin...

Lync/Skype for Business Message Limit – techslaves.org
http://techslaves.org/2015/06/03/lyncskype-for-business-message-limit
Skip to main content. Lync/Skype for Business Message Limit. Lync (Skype for Business) has a maximum message size limit for instant messages:. The limit cannot be configured. And has a bizarre maximum of 800 characters for the first message and 8000 characters for subsequent messages to the same recipient. What? Confusion and frustration ensues. I actually enjoy using Lync but this one unresolvable minor irritation is spoiling the entire experience every time I want to share text with my colleagues.
