I co-wrote (with Larry Rosler) A Fresh Look at Efficient Perl Sorting. It won the award for best technical paper at the 3rd Perl Conference in August 1999. It covers various ways to sort data in Perl and explains the GRT (Guttman-Rosler Transform) which can do very efficient sorting. This paper was first published on perl.com. I wrote this module to scratch an itch but it wasn't mine. I kept seeing queries on usenet for how to read a file backwards, line by line. The Perl Cookbook. Was published and I have receieved many positive responses to it. File: Slurp is being used more and more and several modules now list it as a dependency. This is the best site for Perl beginners. It has a good book called Beginning Perl. That is free to download. I have been privileged to have been a technical editor for some very good Perl books. Object Oriented Perl by Damian Conway. Core Perl by Reuven Lerner. This is a good general introduction to Perl book. I had the nice experience of being on the first Perl Whirl cruise with its author and we had some intense editing sessions.
