Sleeping Mats - Tabitha Ministries

Crochet and Knit Items. These sleeping mats for the homeless are created from used plastic grocery bags. Over 800 bags are used to make just one mat. First the bags are flattened, folded, and cut into strips. The strips are joined to make plarn, "plastic yarn" that is rolled into balls before being crocheted or woven into mats. As word has spread about the sleeping mats that Tabitha Ministries makes, many organizations have asked us to come teach them the process of making mats. They include:.

Crochet and Knit Items. Do you enjoy knitting or crocheting? Hats of all sizes are needed/distributed by a number of organizations. Need yarn? We can give you donated yarn to knit or crochet into hats, washcloths, lap blankets, or socks. Any pattern you have is fine or you can use these posted below. Crochet and Knit Items. We invite you to join us at our monthly meetings which take place on the third Monday of every month (except December). Our meetings are geared for working on whatever projects you enjoy - it's always more fun with friends! We normally have several activities going on at once. To help with making plarn, you may want to bring your own scissors. We have lots of plastic bags that have already been donated so it is not necessary to bring any at this time. Crochet and Knit Items. What can you donate? At this time we have a storage shed full of bags. We would ask that you hold off on bringing us more bags until we have used up our supply. We can always use plarn. This is "Plastic yarn" that has already been cut into strips, connected, and rolled into balls - ready to be crocheted or woven into sleeping mats.
