I was chatting recently, in Spanish, with a couple of Mexican day laborers. Alejandro, from Oaxaca, had been in the U.S. for four months and had chosen Seattle because an uncle lives here. Jorge, from Puebla, had been in my city only four days, but had been working in Texas prior to that. It's the pay, stupid.
