Sunday, June 1, 2008. Week 22: Environmental Expo. So Tuesday, we met at the office to check out the posters they used at the last expo, to discover there actually were no posters. so after giving up a frantic search, we started making new. Posters for the event happening the next. The remaining Green Kalinga team]. Rotary International spent about $6000 to install a 21-stage filtration UV disinfection facility on the GK site, to treat water that has already been treated by the water company. So I sa...

Saturday, March 22, 2008. Week 12: "Good" Friday. So, the vacation's over, and I'm home. It's holy week, so everything is closed, and so I went with my host family to their province to visit their family for easter. In the end, Julia reports that though some of the men participating do this every year for religious reasons, some of even the crucified men (who stayed on their crosses for 5 - 15 min) were out for their chance in the spotlight. Monday, February 25, 2008. Then we found ourselves some breakfast and realized we'd really hit the jackpot on this crazy turn of events, and decided just to stay. The China Sea from our sleeping quarters]. Posted by Lauren Wellborn. Saturday, February 23, 2008. Week 8: Taxis vs. Foreigners: Round 1. So I've sampled these plants each once before, so today was going to be easier, right? Ok), and then tried to drop me off right around the corner, while the meter still said 35P and he owed me 45. The Latest: Week 19: Hazardous Waste
http://sorrythatsnotpossible.blogspot.com/2008/05/week-19-hazardous-waste.html
Friday, May 9, 2008. Week 19: Hazardous Waste. Anyway, they were shipped that way to me the first time, so if they survived the trip once, they'll make it back, right? Then I contacted my landlord and told him I'd need to go back to Manila, and that I'd be moving out in 8 day's time, and he upped my price for staying less than our original 3 month agreement, and for not giving him 30 days' notice, which fair enough was in the lease I signed, but in the end I paid more than double. What You've Been Missing.

The Latest: Week 20: Solo
http://sorrythatsnotpossible.blogspot.com/2008/05/renting.html
Saturday, May 17, 2008. Jeff left this week to start hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. And now I'm back in Manila for more, and solo once again. This seems like a good example of the generally absent middle class. Living options seem to be roach/other infested places for $40/month in less than safe neighborhoods, or decent/nice places for $500. There must be an available middle option, but, like the middle class, it's hard to find. Oh no, my roommate came home after all, got thirsty, and drank my sample...

Saturday, June 7, 2008. Week 23: Glad this one is over. Mouse invasion. That sets the tone for the week. I was so naive to think that the mouse I kept seeing was alone. We were apparently hosting two tribes of them. If my terrible-things-quota wasn't already exhausted with all the other terrible things I've done here because there were no other options (specifically, see week 19. Why was I invited to that? Saturday, May 24, 2008. Week 21: Reunion Village. Alllllright. Since I arrived in the Philippines I've been hearing about this one disastrous site where the shallow drinking wells are right beside the septic tanks. So this week, I went to investigate. I arrived at Reunion village near Batangas on Sunday and had a day to relax before I started sampling. I've been reading a fantastic book, Shantaram,. So I was happy to have some time off. And Reunion is the place. Incubator for my petri dishes.]. That was ...

Saturday, June 28, 2008. Posted by Lauren Wellborn. Saturday, June 21, 2008. Week 25: 5 lbs of black beans. Life has calmed down now to something reasonable and I've had several good, normal, fun days in a row! That's mostly because I haven't had to commute anywhere, and how sweet that is. And sampling is finished! This package has had quite a commute. Mom sent it in March. What's today? I went to pick it up, and found 3 boxes of brownie mix and 5 lbs of black beans inside. And so tonight! GK got involve...

http://sorrythatsnotpossible.blogspot.com/2008/05/neighbors.html
Friday, May 2, 2008. Week 18: The Neighbors. What is your name! Where are you going! Which is really cute, they're nice kids. Today I was walking home by myself with a load of heavy groceries and I came upon about 10 little girls in the street. This one little girl looked so excited to see me, she kept waving her hands, sort of fanning her face trying to think of what to say first and probably how to say it in english. "What is your name!
