Tails of the Off Track Thoroughbred

Tails of the Off Track Thoroughbred. 10 Random facts . Wednesday, April 22, 2015. Strapping on the life preserver. Wow, can't believe it's been almost 2 months since I updated the blog! Did a few gymnastics over the last few weeks. Cantered through 5 one strides with a placing pole; that was FUN, and good. The jumps ended up around 3', so a fun ride. Another gymnastic I did was trot a vertical with 5 placing poles; it began as 2', ended up at 3'6. WOW! Links to this post. Thursday, February 26, 2015.

Tails of the Off Track Thoroughbred: Love this Cali riding weather!

http://tailsoftheottb.blogspot.com/2015/02/love-this-cali-riding-weather.html

Tails of the Off Track Thoroughbred. 10 Random facts . Wednesday, February 11, 2015. Love this Cali riding weather! If there's any type of "perfect" riding weather out there, Northern California is certainly it! She was about a foot over the 3' box, TWISTED in the air, AND drifted left about a foot, all at the same time. Whoa. Lol. I bravely tried it a few more times, and it was pretty bad every time, so lowered it back down the one level and she was fine. Silly girl! I LOVE her, I've been having a GREAT...

http://tailsoftheottb.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Tails of the Off Track Thoroughbred. 10 Random facts . Wednesday, May 28, 2014. Spooking, spinning, barging into the rail tracking left, crow hopping . there was just a whole lotta dram llama going on. This past Sunday, after persevering for roughly 7 months, Jade won 2 red ribbons for S, and yellow one for me . out of 10 ish horses. Proud would be an understatement! I took a lesson from the barn owner last week, and it was interesting. She came right out and said I was not going to learn anything NE...

Tails of the Off Track Thoroughbred: Who we are

http://tailsoftheottb.blogspot.com/p/who-we-are.html

Tails of the Off Track Thoroughbred. 10 Random facts . Me: I am a 34 year old assistant trainer to a big name local hunter trainer. I have been riding since I was 8. Married to my husband for 13 years now with a 11 year old son, I consider myself to be somewhat of a "re-rider" that's done a LOT of teaching and NOT a lot of riding! Just not the "horse" thing.:). March 20, 2013 at 7:15 PM. Hi, Im about to adopt an ottb and I didnt know if you had any advice for the first few weeks. Thanks! I taught Tiki to...

Hobbes says let’s do this! Hunter paces are our new favorite thing, the picture above is from our first one and as you can see we were both pretty thrilled about it! We borrowed a pony! – Training Baron

https://trainingbaron.wordpress.com/2015/06/24/we-borrowed-a-pony

We borrowed a pony! June 24, 2015. I got my daughter a pony. Kind of. I’m doing a “domestic exchange” with Baron and the pony indefinitely. My friend is using Baron in her lesson program and we’re taking James the pony up to stay with us. His allergies seem to be improving. His eyes aren’t crusty and he’s breathing better. We’re feeding him local honey, which is supposed to help with allergies. So far, so good. Month 7 Recap- May. Month 8 Recap – July. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Thunder. One Year Later. December 21, 2015. I feel like my horsemanship journey over the past year has been incredible. When I bought Thunder, he was about as broken and upside down as a horse can be. I did not know how to fix him. Nothing I learned at hunter jumper barns prepared me for the mess that was Thunder. I started doing research because I needed help. What I found is classical dressage. Why did everybody just say I should slap on a martingale? Now I had a road map to follow in fixing Thunder.

Month 7 Recap- May. June 24, 2015. June 24, 2015. My 6 year old trotting on Thunder by herself for the first time. He is getting very accustomed to moving off my leg. We’ve started lateral work at the walk, just moving sideways across the pasture, and he caught on to that quickly. We’ve also been spiraling in and out on a circle. The goal is to build muscle in his hindquarters. I love how he’s looking and I can’t wait to see how his topline continues to fill out. Look at that perfect hunter trot! You are...

Training Thunder- Month 6 Recap- April. May 3, 2015. May 3, 2015. April was HUGE for Thunder. I can’t believe we’ve been working for six months already! April lived up to the old rhyme about April showers; it rained and rained and rained some more. We didn’t ride as much as I would have liked, but the work we did was solid. Month 5 Recap- March. Month 7 Recap- May. One thought on “ Training Thunder- Month 6 Recap- April. May 8, 2015 / 2:31 pm. What a great job you are doing with him! Address never made p...

Month 5 Recap- March. April 12, 2015. May 3, 2015. March was AWESOME for Thunder and me. After hardly working at all in February because of the miserable weather, we came back to work in March and made real progress. I’ve started riding him again instead of only lunging. We either ride in the little pasture or we do a big loop that takes us on a residential road and on a trail. It’s so refreshing! Month 4 Recap- February. Training Thunder- Month 6 Recap- April. Month 8 Recap – July. August 4, 2015. Thunder with some homeschoolers. July, however, was probably the best month yet in terms of improvement. We changed barns and I now have a huge flat pasture to ride in, and even jumps! We’re close to the lake so we can do a trail ride down to the lake and back. So far it’s been a fantastic improvement for us. We have the space we need to get our work done. How good does he look here? I am so happy with how he’s progressing. We still have high headed moments...You are...

Slightly obsessed, totally in love with my OTTB: retraining and figuring it out along the way. I decided long ago that when it came time to get my own horse it would be an off track thoroughbred and Izzy is the mare who started it all. Thoughts on “Izzy”. April 25, 2012 at 1:14 pm. Awww I loved that silly little mare! She was the best. April 25, 2012 at 2:36 pm. She trucked so many of us around – she deserves a lot of credit! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Cat on a Roof... | And Other Tails of the Herd!

Cat on a Roof…. And Other Tails of the Herd! January 29, 2015. This is Leeloo, the cat that started it all. Sometimes known as Lelu, also known as the “cat from hell,” she’s a tortie. For those of you who don’t know cats, “tortie” refers to her coat, which resembles a patchwork of black, brown, orange and gold colors – tortoiseshell. The majority of these cats are females because it takes two X chromosomes to produce their distinctive coats. And that’s how Leeloo became the cat on the roof. It only took ...
