The petrol station at the end of the universe | taking the van
https://takingthevan.wordpress.com/2011/03/13/the-petrol-station-at-the-end-of-the-universe
Just another WordPress.com site. Bolivian Epic day 1. Standing in the sky →. The petrol station at the end of the universe. March 13, 2011. In the morning, the nice lady at the petrol station warned us about water when we were driving, but we understood that she meant we could not drive on the flats. She kept telling us to stick to the earth (road), not the salt, and she drew us a helpful map in the sand, again, almost toally contraadicting the 3 maps in the car. Off we went. Bolivian Epic day 1.

Just another WordPress.com site. Newer posts →. Bolivian Epic day 1. March 12, 2011. Its my fault. I wanted to see the salt flats. Described in the guide as “One of the great Bolivian road trips”, we new of many people that had driven across the salt flats in their own behicle. Blinding white sand, blue skies, cheesy picutures of holding people in your hands that are actually a long way away – I wanted it all! Apart from stalling on the upside of a steeply banking dry river bed, it was ok! We did see som...

Just another WordPress.com site. Monthly Archives: March 2011. March 16, 2011. An hour after that, a new town. A town with electric lights and the occasional paved street. Expecting officials, we parked, brushed the dust off, tried to settle Aids hair into a reasonable style and look like upstanding citizens. Upstanding cirizens that have spend a night on a sand dune on the run from the army in a state of blind panic. The moment when we finally reached tarmac again! Salvation – almost. March 15, 2011.

Just another WordPress.com site. Salvation – almost. March 15, 2011. All night the wind blew. The van is never great at starting in the cold and it was freezing and a fine dust was in everything. The smoke alarm even went off in the cabin because there was so much dust in the air. We had no idea if the engine would cope with it. She’s only a cambridgshire council van with a funny roof. Idiots. I was really pleased that she was there as when they told me to get in the car, she made it seem reasonable.
