Two Hardrock100 qualifying races in 5 weeks, what was I thinking? In its 5 year existence there have only been three sub 24 hour finishers. Although one year the race was canceled halfway through due to inclement weather. Still an impressive statistic! Day before the race. It's hard work prepping for a 100). Travis McWhorter: November 2014

http://talesfromtheearth505.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 9, 2014. Javelina Jundred 2014 (#JJ100). Travis McWhorter - race report - a tale of struggle and triumph. Finish Rate: 56.4%. 2:45AM the alarm went off and I was up. Did the usual race prep and then my crew and I were headed to the Four Peaks staging area where we were shuttled to the start of the race. The finish/start was unlike any I'd seen before. The party atmosphere the race is known for was in full-swing. Here we go, my first 100 miler attempt. Personal stash of fuel for the race).

Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Capitol Reef 100 2015 - wildest, craziest, hardest race. Capitol Reef 100 (Torrey, Utah). 6th overall, 30:40:40. Finish Rate: 57.14%. The race director had told us at briefing that they (the Ultra Adventures staff) had underestimated the amount of course markers they'd needed for this race and to be on the lookout for rock cairns and notches in the trees that the Forest Service had cut. Boy, am I glad I attended this briefing! I'd set my alarm for 2:45 AM to allow 15 minutes to ea...

Thursday, June 11, 2015. Bryce Canyon 100 Mile - 2015. Bryce Canyon 100 Mile. 39th OA, 29:57:13. Finish Rate: 64.4%. And the sheer volume of racing he does, I've come to the realization that as long as I am smart by listening to the body, I too can handle the exponential increase in races! To carry on this mantra of "I CAN! 6 am and the race director, Matt Gunn, set us off. It was chilly and I was feeling groggy and a little cranky but that soon subsided as the first miles began to tick off. Mile 19 was ...

Monday, January 19, 2015. Quick update: I've become a 2015 athlete ambassador for Hammer Nutrition. View my bio here. I've been using Hammer's gels, HEED, and Endurolytes since 2012. I first used CarbBoom! Energy gels after reading Matt Carpenter's 2005 Leadville 100M report. He remains the course record holder in 15 hours 42 minutes). In the future I'll write a more in-depth blog about Ultra Adventures and the excitement that stems from joining Matt Gunn. 4/11 Cedro Peak 45M (New Mexico).

Friday, February 27, 2015. Antelope Canyon 100 Mile (Page, AZ) 2/21/2015. Antelope Canyon 100 Mile - 2/21/2015. 8th Overall, 27:25:02. This was my first Ultra Adventures. And what an experience it was! My crew and I (consisting of my dad and step-mom) arrived two days early so that we could get settled into the area and also complete one of the AC Trifectas. Trifectas. All loaded up in my dad's touring bus). But alas, I made it and witnessed the surreal beauty of being on the banks of the mighty Colorado...

Tales from the Edge of the Empire

Tales from the Edge of the Empire. Monday, August 17, 2015. It's been a bit of a slow summer for me, as far as this blog is concerned. Nevertheless, this post is the first in a series dealing with piracy in the Star Wars. Finally, it's possible that somebody aboard the targeted vessel is a betrayer, providing the pirates with the location of the ship in question in exchange for a payout or possibly revenge of some kind. One option is to knock the ship out of hyperspace. Putting a heavy body, such as ...
