Continuing ruminations of a working film critic and programmer. Thursday, April 09, 2015. Okay, it's not a film story but Benaud was one of the classic voices of cricket and a very fine player as well, and as a (still tyro) fan, I was sorry to learn of his death today. Where a lifetime of law practice and marathons merge. For all who believe in strength of spirit. Friday, April 1, 2011. The first time I saw her she was walking alone at dusk in the forest where only trail runners go. As I trotted passed she gave me a shy nod. I pretended not to notice her tears. The next day I saw her again. Thirty-something with hair pushed under a cap, this time she was running the trail ahead of me. She seemed happier, and I wondered about yesterday’s tears. I volunteered little abou...

Where a lifetime of law practice and marathons merge. For all who believe in strength of spirit. Thursday, June 30, 2011. THE AMERICAN BRAND,. Obsessed with labels. But, is it branding or bragging? In this age of shameless self promotion, the line blurs. It’s not that twentieth century Americans rejected self promotion. We embraced silver tongues, like Will Rogers. The JCC in Manhattan is, among other things, the home of the Israel Film Center. Space and time limitations precluded coverage of several of the other films in the festival, but I've written, favorably, about at least one other title that will be part of the event, an Israeli-German co-production Anywhere Else. That film played at the Kino! Homecoming: Neta Riskin in Anywhere Else.
