Our little neck of the Woods. Saturday, December 24, 2011. In his writings, the apostle John referred to himself as " disciple. Sometimes we think of love as kind of a fluffy topic, one that is difficult to grasp in a practical worship situation. However, the doctrine of love is profound and straightforward. There are three main things I think we need to understand about love. First, understand that God loves us, as evidenced by the gift of His Son. God loves each of His children, as does Jesus Christ.

Our little neck of the Woods. Monday, January 30, 2012. Joe and Joe Jr. Names have been changed to avoid embarrassment.). As we sat down to dinner last night, Joe said that his belly had been upset since lunch. I asked what he had eaten for lunch. He said, "Chili and Tabasco sauce." Are you kidding me? Note to the curious: a combination of chili and Tabasco sauce gives a person a bellyache. It's almost inevitable. Especially if said person is closer to 40- than 20-years-old. And rushed for the water.

Our little neck of the Woods: April 2014

Our little neck of the Woods. Tuesday, April 29, 2014. The Key to Freedom. My opinion is that education is the key to democracy. An educated people is a free people. Educated people will work to maintain their own rights and to guarantee liberty for all. This is why I shamelessly support the public school system. Oh, I have my doubts about aspects of "the system." But the whole idea of free schools open to every single child in the entire country- what a concept! I know some public schools are better tha...

Our little neck of the Woods. Monday, March 31, 2014. One of the common themes taught to young mothers is to not. Worry about the mess. I read and heard advice given over and over that the children are only small for such a short time. Don't worry about the mess. A messy house is a lived-in house. Enjoy your children, don't worry about cleaning. Cleanliness is a legacy worth leaving. Links to this post. Sunday, March 30, 2014. Look for solutions, not problems. Links to this post. Our little neck of the Woods. Friday, January 31, 2014. That's the background. The other day, we analyzed "My Evening Prayer" by Charles H. Gabriel. We only had two stanzas and then Ammon's assignment was to create a third stanza following the model. I understand that Mr. Gabriel wrote a very sincere, heartfelt poem. Ammon can be sincere and heartfelt, but he is also a 13-year-old boy with a charmingly silly disposition. By Charles H. Gabriel. If I have wounded any soul today,. Good Lord, forgive! Last y...

Our little neck of the Woods: Mid-Life Philosophy--2
http://ourlittleneckofthewoods.blogspot.com/2014/05/mid-life-philosophy-2.html
Our little neck of the Woods. Saturday, May 3, 2014. Jesus Christ taught, "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it" (Matthew 10:39). On my mission and at other times in my life, I have discovered more about myself when I wasn't thinking about myself than I could have with a whole lot of "me time.". I understand the importance of having time for personal development. I had four children in less than six years. Of course I understand that! Told the stor...

Our little neck of the Woods: Mid-Life Philosophy--5
http://ourlittleneckofthewoods.blogspot.com/2014/05/mid-life-philosophy-5.html
Our little neck of the Woods. Thursday, May 1, 2014. For many years, Chris worked at a residential treatment facility for at-risk teenagers. Some of those kids had done some pretty horrible things. The consequences of their actions were, in some cases, lifelong. I often thought about how much of life they had left to live. Was there no hope for their temporal future? How is that okay? They were so young. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
