Frank was very nervous about asking Jeans father Walter for permission to marry his only daughter. When he finally plucked up the courage, Jeans father readily agreed and gave the couple his blessing, much to Frank's relief. Franks favourite picture of Jean. First photo in uniform 1941. In July 1941 Frank enlisted with the AIF in Melbourne. He immediately entered an Army Camp at Royal Park, Melbourne and was allocated the usual blanket and bag of straw to sleep on. His years of roughing it had finally come in handy! On 2nd November 1941 Frank joined several thousand other troops in the Queen Elizabeth 1 bound for the Middle East. Three weeks later they arrived in Egypt. Army training camp prior to embarkation. Frank and Jean made many trips overseas and there were few countries that they had not visited. Cruising was one of their most favoured holidays and they had many adventures and made many friends on multiple cruises over the years. Ancestor Admiral Sir Hugh Palliser - James Cook's mentor. Palliser at the Battle of Ushant 1778. Cape Palliser Lighthouse in NZ which Cook named after his mentor - he also named his son Hugh after his good friend (Palliser was also Hugh's Godfather). Jean was concerned that the war was still going, lads were still being killed overseas and austerity measures were in place, so she did not want to have a lavish wedding or even a wedding gown. She was finally persuaded to get a gown, and only received it a few days before the wedding. She looked magnificent on the day. Following the wedding, the reception was held at the Hotel Federal and after at the Maison De Lux Cabaret. A two week honeymoon in Launceston, Tasmania, followed. Jean in her wedding dress.
