tangentalley – Tangent Alley
https://tangentalley.wordpress.com/author/tangentalley
Where a romantic suspense writer goes off-piste. Seen in a different light. Most things are worth a second glance, whether it’s a person, a place or an object. Looking again can reveal hidden beauty, or unexpected faults and as I type this I realise how much this applies to re-reading one’s writing! I’m in the process of editing a manuscript and every time I open it I find another mistake, or I find a piece of dialogue or imagery that makes me think did I really write that? And not always in horror.).
The single best piece of writing advice – Tangent Alley
https://tangentalley.wordpress.com/2016/09/23/the-single-best-piece-of-writing-advice
Where a romantic suspense writer goes off-piste. The single best piece of writing advice. There you go, that’s it. I did write a longer introduction but so many blog posts like this are click bait and here you can see the advice without even having to open a link on twitter. But if you do want more, and to read about the brilliant teacher who gave me this nugget of wisdom, do please read on. One of the earliest people to exhibit all this was Julie Cohen. Warning, she is a Post-It pusher and I have learne...
Finding your daily squirrel – Tangent Alley
https://tangentalley.wordpress.com/2017/01/09/finding-your-daily-squirrel
Where a romantic suspense writer goes off-piste. Finding your daily squirrel. So, after a classic Tangent Alley overlong opening paragraph, here are a few of the things that I had almost forgotten made 2016 sparkle amid the tears and fears. (Quite a few of which are illustrated here in my what we did on our holidays post.). The Gruffalo’s Child climbed with us. Lots of days on beaches I think of this as mostly for the kids but I had far too much fun building, and destroying, dams on beaches this year.
The start of the affair – Tangent Alley
https://tangentalley.wordpress.com/2016/09/16/the-start-of-the-affair
Where a romantic suspense writer goes off-piste. The start of the affair. Three weeks ago I fell in love. It’s been a long time since that happened and I was unprepared for the rush of excitement and passion, the overwhelming sense of Yes! And did I mention the beach? South Glamorgan, the wonderful Heritage Coast in south Wales. The beach is also known as Southerndown.). And in someone else’s fascination with the castle here. I don’t know why the aerial shots had this effect on me, there are many here on...
Castles and ruins and interrupted stories – Tangent Alley
https://tangentalley.wordpress.com/2016/07/22/castles-and-ruins-and-interrupted-stories
Where a romantic suspense writer goes off-piste. Castles and ruins and interrupted stories. History, archaeology, myth, legend, inspiration and anything else you want them to be. That’s why I love castles. Especially ruined ones. In fact anything ruined. And hillforts or other ancient earthworks. And did I mention standing stones? Burial sites, graveyards, the remains of abbeys, country houses that date back centuries. Where to stop? Was that hill I can see from this arrow slit wooded centuries ago?

Another baby due in the family – I was told at Christmas that I should get my needles out again for the summer, and asked whether a garment or a toy would be preferred. Collecting tangent thoughts, ideas, images…. April 10, 2013. There have been a lot of messages about color lately which have made me realize how much fear is associated with color. I don’t mean “red for danger” I mean “black for criminal”, “pink for effeminate”, “blue for corporate”. Serious stuff like race and also less serious, but still harmful, color is for creative people, “I’m not creative”. Color is everyone, color is everywhere, fear no color. October 13, 2012.
