Rice, the magic diet food. One of my co-teachers told me that the reason Americans are fat and Koreans are thin is because Koreans eat rice, and Americans eat bread, and rice is healthier than bread. Considering that all the bread in Korea is overly sweetened, that’s true. But the white rice in Korea is hardly healthier than the whole grain bread available in the States. Boys and girls…working…together? The social hierarchy in Korea, and the appropriate behavior, is very strict compared to a Western country. It is dependent on age, and then also split between the sexes. Much of this is based on Confucian traditions.
