Grassroots Architecture: magazines and a lecture today
http://grassrootsarchitecture.blogspot.com/2008/11/magazines-and-lecture-today.html
Design from an unqualified economics student. Monday, November 3, 2008. Magazines and a lecture today. During the summer I looked forward to the new issues of Dwell, Atomic Ranch, Case Da Abitare, and a few others. But in this school-basketball frenzy I've completely forgotten about those magazines. They were my exclusive sources of learning and I've dropped them. With magazines and a lecture in my future, today is going to be full of learning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Grassroots Architecture: Sketches of Frank Gehry
http://grassrootsarchitecture.blogspot.com/2008/11/sketches-of-frank-gehry.html
Design from an unqualified economics student. Saturday, November 15, 2008. Sketches of Frank Gehry. This documentary by director Sydney Pollack of non-documentary fame follows Frank Gehry. From sketches, physical models, computer models, and finally to the actual building, we see how Gehry creates some of the most whimsical, fantastic structures around. Where's the crazy, artistic madness? Where do you get those shapes Gehry? Ah, the redemption! Imagine viewing the world through those, architecture spect...

Grassroots Architecture: October 2008
http://grassrootsarchitecture.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Design from an unqualified economics student. Friday, October 31, 2008. Green building is today's topic. What is this? I don't know. Solar panels and wind sticks? Wood bad and white, sleek materials good? I don't have any answers to these deep and important questions right now (sorry), but I found a flickr group. With plenty of neat (and not so) pictures of green buildings/areas. Carouse, I mean caruise, the images for a bit. I mean look at. Monday, October 27, 2008. But even that example clouds the issu...

Grassroots Architecture: September 2008
http://grassrootsarchitecture.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Design from an unqualified economics student. Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Cranes, construction, drizzle castles and Lego's. Ask your parents or anyone when they realized that their job was the one for them. And if it's a depressing topic. mmm, don't ask. Thinking back, here's how I viewed architect:. As a youngster big buildings fascinated me. How could they be so big and how do people build those? Kind of silly, but this isn't: drizzle castles. So if you've read this far, why not comment? I'm beginning...

Grassroots Architecture: Kengo Kuma
http://grassrootsarchitecture.blogspot.com/2008/11/kengo-kuma.html
Design from an unqualified economics student. Tuesday, November 4, 2008. Last night Kengo Kuma spoke at Cooper Union about his current works, dating back twenty years. His goal has been to "recover the tradition of Japanese buildings" for the 21st century. My limited conception of Japanese, Chinese, or Asian architecture flying kicks from kung fu montages and typical scenic photos. But, Kuma has proved me wrong. I unknowingly know more than I thought. I understand they aren't exactly of. Serenity broken&...

Design from an unqualified economics student. Wednesday, December 3, 2008. With tests around the corner, I feel an invisible presence guiding me toward the books. My conscience? Also, I haven't felt creative lately. Wound up and waiting to go home. It's a tough environment to even doodle in. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). New York, NY, United States. View my complete profile. Design from an unqualified economics student. Thursday, November 20, 2008. Contest #1: Best name for this "fine fellow". This Bull Terrier (recreated with the Bamboo tablet above) is on a card my mom gave me from a devoured care package. She writes:. Dave, I hope you enjoy these snacks, I made some of them (you can probably tell)! But I'm sure the fine fellow on this card would enjoy them too! So no shame, shout um out, I know you get plenty names. Monday, November 17, 2008. Saturday, November 15, 2008.

Grassroots Architecture: Dark House
http://grassrootsarchitecture.blogspot.com/2008/11/dark-house.html
Design from an unqualified economics student. Saturday, November 8, 2008. The other day, I learned that architects put great thought into the spirit, or essence of their buildings. They wrestle with ways to capture a quality in that time and place. At this point in my education I usually need that quality slowly explained several times to understand. And even then, I'm glazing over wondering, "What's all this? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Contest #1: Best name for this fine fellow. A Daily Dose of...
