The Abbey Residents Association. Improving conditions for people living in the centre of the City of Bath. Begging in Bath is an ongoing problem and in recent years we have seen a marked increase. Begging contributes to anti-social behaviour and damages the reputation of the city with visitors. Anti-social behaviour from beggars is a drain on Police resources. In 2013, over a six month period the police attended 600 calls relating to street begging and anti-social behaviour.

Bath is littered with cigarette debris, despite constant appeals to smokers to dispose of their litter responsibly. This litter is unattractive to look at and expensive to clear up. This is a problem both for neighbours who have to put up with the noise and litter created and licensees who incur additional security cost and heating costs. The Abbey Residents Association. Founded in 2000 TARA has about three hundred members and seeks to improve conditions for those living in the centre of the beautiful city of Bath. However, those who live here also experience the problems of the modern city:. Poorly designed street furniture. Street cleaning services being overwhelmed by the increase in street fouling. Illegal begging and street drinking.
