A Little About a Lot: April 2015
http://niallgavinuk.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
A Little About a Lot. Monday, 13 April 2015. I mentioned MOOCs to one of my team last week and was met with a blank stare and. Inevitable follow-up question - "What's a MOOC? Other than being able to tell her that a MOOC is a 'Massive Open Online Course', I didn't have a lot to say about them. Hang on", I hear you cry. "Aren't you supposed to be some kind of Learning and Development Techie Manager, or something like that? Aren't you supposed to know about all this stuff? And write a blog. I figure that i...

A Little About a Lot: September 2014
http://niallgavinuk.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
A Little About a Lot. Saturday, 13 September 2014. Three years on - On taking my Son to University. 2014 is shaping up to be a milestone year for us, and I will no doubt blog some reflections on that, with the hindsight of distance and time, next year. For today though, I wanted to share some thoughts and feelings, which reference a previous blog from September three years ago Reflections on taking my Daughter to University. And touch on taking my son, Sam, to university in. And finally decided that work...

A Little About a Lot: May 2015
http://niallgavinuk.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
A Little About a Lot. Sunday, 3 May 2015. I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Caroline Walmsley (@carowalmsley), CEO of Brightwave, last week and we had a wide-ranging conversation about learning, learners, L&D, vendors and the ambiguous spaces betwixt and between them. Under this Creative Commons Licence. It was a transformative experience. Not only did I not die, but the world underneath the surface was beautiful. I was surrounded by fish, I was 'flying' over an undersea landscape o...I pan...

A Little About a Lot: March 2015
http://niallgavinuk.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
A Little About a Lot. Sunday, 8 March 2015. Mandy and I attended a surprise 60th birthday lunch for my best pal. In London today. His partner, Clare, had asked me,. As his oldest pal,. To say a few words. This is what I said. I'm going to start by taking a quick a straw poll. How many of you here today call Michael by his full name - Michael - or by the more familiar, Mike? The majority of hands showed up for 'Michael'). And Mike made me laugh. We shared the same sense of humour, fuelled by comedians...

A diary of sorts about what I'm learning about learning. Next OzLearn Tweet Chat is on 12/8/14. Moving On →. Last week I submitted my final assessments for my Master eLearning course through B Online Learning. It was somewhat bittersweet in that it meant that the course was coming to an end but at the same time I felt a sense of accomplishment now that I was finished. I’ve written a couple of posts. How if we can satisfy people’s needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness we can improve their motivat...

Love Learning Lives | Game Over Man
https://clearlylearning.wordpress.com/2013/01/13/love-learning-lives
Last week our CEO announced the launch of Love Learning, our new campaign to promote independent learning, increase internal and external networking and improve collaboration and knowledge sharing habits across the company. Than I do story-boarding for Captivate. So what is Love Learning if there’s no designed learning. Is it all hype and hyperbole? How does it work? We aim to post two articles a week that develop the topic, invite participation and promote other resources for people to try. We can m...

A Little About a Lot: January 2015
http://niallgavinuk.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
A Little About a Lot. Sunday, 18 January 2015. I spent a lot of time over the festive holidays on domestic tasks like putting up curtain rails, hanging pictures and assembling bedroom furniture. We moved into our new-build home at the beginning of November and I never really had time to attend to these tasks between then and breaking up for the vacation, so I was glad to finally put my own feet on the floor, so to speak. And what great instructions they provide! There are no unnecessary explanations....

A Little About a Lot: April 2014
http://niallgavinuk.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
A Little About a Lot. Saturday, 5 April 2014. Not such big news - House-hunting's emotionally and aesthetically challenging! In the words of Sinead O'Connor, "Nothing Compares." to our home of 23 years (but which we have now put on the market to get rid of our mortgage and move somewhere cheaper, for reasons already mentioned in a previous blog 'Not Moving On'. That said, our house has never looked better! All the little jobs I was never getting round to have been done; Saturday mornings now, we blitz t...

Making a ruckus – transformation including digital. August 19, 2015. During a recent interview I asked the hopeful job seekers across the table from me “Can you tell me about a time you’ve failed? The reason that I asked wasn’t to make them squirm,. But to better understand how the individual views making mistakes along the road to success. 37signals say that failure is overrated. A few recent mistakes I’ve made:. Ordered 200 bespoke mugs too quickly and now I have 162 still unsold. August 8, 2015. Shopi...
