HERBIE!: Filling time
http://nbherbie.blogspot.com/2015/07/filling-time.html
Journeys on our narrowboat and the trials and tribulations of maintaining her. Thursday, July 02, 2015. Here I am at Hillmorton filling time. Kath has popped home for an embroidery group exhibition planning meeting and I am awaiting a shiny new set of batteries which I am hoping will arrive this morning. Not too bad for an ordinary camera shot. Herbies batteries really have collapsed. This morning they were down to 14% on the old Smartgauge. Still I've had them for five years so I'm not complaini...I thi...

HERBIE!: How not to bleed an engine
http://nbherbie.blogspot.com/2010/05/how-not-to-bleed-engine.html
Journeys on our narrowboat and the trials and tribulations of maintaining her. Tuesday, May 18, 2010. How not to bleed an engine. Bleeding the fuel system on a BMC 1.8 is not my idea of fun. I hate it. There are no less than 6 bleed screws, plus the four injector unions to bleed and some are hard to get at. Still, you have to do it after you have changed the fuel filters which is what I did today, along with an oil and oil filter change. One good thing I did achieve today was a good cleanout of the engin...

HERBIE!: The Storm
http://nbherbie.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-storm.html
Journeys on our narrowboat and the trials and tribulations of maintaining her. Sunday, July 12, 2015. And it came to pass that two travellers came to the Keeper of the Locks. "Travellers, what seekest thou? We desire to ascend to a higher plane." Spake the travellers. "Yea even unto the Watford summit. " Then the Keeper opened The Book and spake thus. And so the travellers journeyed on ever upwards until they reached the lofty heights, where they stopped to rest and watch the tennis but the TV couldn't g...

HERBIE!: An egg cup full of paint and a mile of masking tape
http://nbherbie.blogspot.com/2010/07/egg-cup-full-of-paint-and-mile-of.html
Journeys on our narrowboat and the trials and tribulations of maintaining her. Thursday, July 08, 2010. An egg cup full of paint and a mile of masking tape. Yes I've been cheating at signwriting again. Now the HERBIE sign is complete on both sides of the boat and I'm fairly pleased with it. No artistry involved and not much brush skill, just a lot of planning and thought and a great deal of masking tape. I did do a bit of freehand writing yesterday, putting our registration number on the boat side. Tilti...

HERBIE!: An alarming breakdown and a chance meeting with the guv'nor
http://nbherbie.blogspot.com/2006/09/alarming-breakdown-and-chance-meeting.html
Journeys on our narrowboat and the trials and tribulations of maintaining her. Sunday, September 17, 2006. An alarming breakdown and a chance meeting with the guv'nor. We were on our way from Iver to Paddington basin to collect our son Peter for a week's holiday cruise. Pete Higson, our "regular" crew member was with us as well as Jake the cabin boy. All went well down to Bull's Bridge where we moored at Tescos for provisions and a spot of lunch before turning up the Paddington Arm of the GU. We finally ...

HERBIE!: Scary encounters
http://nbherbie.blogspot.com/2015/07/scary-encounters.html
Journeys on our narrowboat and the trials and tribulations of maintaining her. Saturday, July 11, 2015. You know those films where the nose of a submarine suddenly surfaces from a featureless ocean? There being no way to avoid this green curtain we ploughed on through like you do, little realising what was hidden on the other side. Neil and Kath,. So sorry indeed that we missed you! We are moored up just after bridge 101 on the N. Oxford/G.U. heading toward Napton. Les used an araldite type of sealant on...

HERBIE!: Ashby Images
http://nbherbie.blogspot.com/2015/07/ashby-images.html
Journeys on our narrowboat and the trials and tribulations of maintaining her. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Just to be contrary, I’ll start at the end. This is as far up the Ashby canal as most boats get, but as you can see there is a further restored bit in water beyond the gate. Here’s what it says on the last bridge. 8221; and came back with a nameless concoction that was actually pretty nice. 160; However there are indeed some nice stone ones at the southern end. Great sky in the second-to-last photo.
