Back to music index. The challenge of writing solos is made a lot easier when you get a chance to write for great musicians like Roger Heaton (clarinet) and Christopher Redgate (oboe). The range of timbre they achieve is amazing. In the most recent solo 'power of place' for oboe I got interested in using simple audience participation to heighten the experience. The first is a gentle exploration around the note. The second is a frisky and capricious dance around it. Score - pdf 168kb.

New published 27 October 2014 the short film 'Doors' features music from Fight and Flight. Fight and Flight are an acoustic guitar duet, formed when James Douglas and Lawrence Reed met whilst studying for a Masters in Composition in Bath Spa University. My recent projects are exemplified in the Larkhall Festival. And the ebb of acrophobia. Performed in Trafalgar Square with over 50 musicians from all over the UK turning up on the day to participate. Amazing, they had no rehearsal but took ideas and concepts from my website beforehand. The music can be improvisational and experimental in nature, but often underpinned by some directions or guidelines. There is usually no musical ability required as a basis for participation.
