Urbanphile: August 2008
http://urbanphile.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 24, 2008. I have been slowly plodding through Lewis Mumford’s classic work The City in History. I was reflecting on this tendency described by Mumford below:. 8220;Thus both the physical form and the institutional life of the city, from the very beginning of the urban implosion, were shaped in no small measure by the irrational and magical purposes of war. It is about disciplining our wants and needs in congruence with a true story, which gives us the resources to lead truthful lives. In living out the story together, togetherness happens, but only as a by-product of the main project of trying to be faithful to Jesus. Former world-travelers, now settled down with a family on the prairie. Shelfari: Book reviews on your book blog. Friday, January 2, 2009. Vacation Day gone bad. A warm sunny day, with nothing on the agenda except trying to play a few more new board games from Christmas, maybe painting my nails, perhaps a good movie.
