Jose De Juan. Painter. Scattered. I've been calling myself that for a while now and it's time to take an informed pause. Running around trying to "do" everything is just wearing me down and it's like trying to build three houses at the same time, with different blueprints and materials and locations. You spend more time running between the houses than actually building them. Expensive and self-fulfilling marketing strategies. Here are some pieces I did for the Segil and Tirage Galleries' sponsored outing...

Mary Lou's Paintings: Time for Spring Cleaning (or not)??
http://marylouarnold.blogspot.com/2011/04/time-for-spring-cleaning-or-not.html
Saturday, April 9, 2011. Time for Spring Cleaning (or not)? Robert Genn's most recent Twice-Weekly Letter. Made me think. I have a lot of old paintings that will never see the light of day, let alone a mat and frame. What do you do with your old sketches, and paintings that aren't your best, the "failures"? Do you recycle or spring clean? Posted by Mary Lou Arnold. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). All paintings are available for purchase. Contact me at:. Time for Spring Cleaning (or not)?

New York City Urban Sketchers: January 2015

Saturday, January 31, 2015. NYC Urban Sketcher Visits Venice Beach! This NYC Urban Sketcher escaped the cold to Venice Beach and posting new sketches for your enjoyment. For those who've never been here, Venice is an offbeat backwater of greater Los Angeles filled with old folks, homeless people, tatood types, muscle men, and yuppies. For years, this has been my home-away-from-home. Whenever I'm in Venice I visit the Israel Levin Senior Center on the Venice boardwalk - where else would a geriatrician go?

Friday, March 25, 2011. Joseph Raffael - Check One off the Bucket List. One of my artistic goals was to actually be nose to glass with a watercolor painting by Joseph Raffael. And today, I actually met that goal! Joseph Raffael: Reflections from the Garden. Traveling to the Nancy Hoffman Gallery. Who represents Raffael) in the Chelsea District in New York City was/is a possibility, but to be able to view his work right here in southern California, is a special treat. Jose's Art Journal: Tattoos and Mr. Lopez. The BP Portrait Awards 2015.

Jose De Juan. Painter. Tattoos and Mr. Lopez. The BP Portrait Awards 2015. Sebastian' oil on canvas , by Czech painter Jan Mikulka. 70x100cm. Like last year, why the first prize. Went to the painting it went to will remain a mystery to me. I thought it was a-ok, a bit uneven, miming photography and uninteresting despite the pretense that it was inspired by a biblical passage or something lofty like that. Oh well. Eliza' by Michael Gaskell (b.1973). 370 x 270mm, acrylic on board. 2nd Prize. Every year the...

Jose De Juan. Painter. Whitechapel, a street that on Saturdays could very well be somewhere in BanglaDesh or Pakistan. And despite it all, I'd say I am gathering a decent collection of plein air sketches. They are all 8"x10" because that's the size of the carrier I built. Two of them are on their way to collectors in the USA. One watercolor found a home here in London and other people have expressed interest. Not bad for a weekend warrior. Greenwich street" Sun drenched this time. SOLD. The passers-by ha...

Jose De Juan. Painter. Hansen was the son of an artists and left for Germany when he was 20 to study art. For five years he devoted himself to paint european landscapes in Belgium and other places. He ended up in Monterrey when this town was but a small fishing village. You can read more about his life here. Stranded" oil on canvas. The skies never reflect in the ocean and are often heavier and more belabored than the sea below. His treatment of the human form is quite cartoonish and coarse as well. ...
