the teaching b: Reflect
http://theteachingb.blogspot.com/2014/04/reflect.html
Wednesday, April 30, 2014. A few weeks ago, my dad asked me what my biggest takeaways were from my past 2 years working at my elementary school. I've learned so much - it's really hard to put into words (& barely captured in this post) - but here's an attempt, a glimpse:. I'm a master detector of if kids truly need to use the bathroom, or are just bored. I can catch the general mood of a room because of all the faculty meetings I've attended. OR I can just sing sana, sana, colita de rana. I can't believe...

Thursday, February 28, 2013. AKA the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness test. The countdown for STAAR tests. In just a few short weeks, my class will take STAAR exams for writing, reading and math to assess their mastery of fourth grade skills. My kiddos will need to write narrative and expository essays, read various passages and answer questions to assess comprehension, and solve intense 2-step math problems. Their brains are really put to the test at this point in the year.as is mine!

http://theteachingb.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 17, 2013. Happend around this time last year. Looking back, I don't think I've ever been as stressed, tired and miserable as I was then. I worked harder than ever to seemingly fail everyday - which takes a toll on you both mentally and physically. This October is like a breath of fresh air in comparison - mostly because of an acquired skill developed all throughout last year. I'm now able to collaborate. With a network of people (sounds silly, but it's a skill to me! Turns out, my frust...

Monday, November 18, 2013. Teacher, can you tie my shoes? Everything that comes out of my students' mouth is a reminder of the special age in which they are. So dependent, so innocent, so honest.I absolutely adore it. I remember when I learned how to tie my shoes. My older cousin was given the task to teach me and taught me the bunny ears way - make two bunny ears, loop them around each other and voila. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). B is for 'Bama. the teaching b: love
http://theteachingb.blogspot.com/2014/02/love.html
Monday, February 17, 2014. My first graders are the most loving people I've ever met. They greet each other at the door in the mornings, applaud each other when questions are answered correctly, smile incessantly.I could go on and on! During rough days (typically Mondays) I like to keep track of the things they do that really make me smile. Can I stay in first grade next year? So you can be my teacher again? 25 hugs received throughout the day. Ms Castro, I don't ever want to lose you.". B is for 'Bama.

Monday, February 24, 2014. Gymnastics molded me into the person I am today. The following video pretty much sums up my experiences with the sport:. As I joined Teach For America, I came to the realization that gymnastics had impacted my character more than my time as a student in my K-12 classrooms. Time management, discipline, perseverance, resilience, hard work.all of these skills came from a sport still dear to my heart. As the culminating event for running club, I ran The Cowtown.
