Violence is any abusive behavior used by a partner, friend or a family member to try and gain control over another person’s life. Examples of violence are:. Physical violence (hitting, pushing, etc). Forcing you to have sex. Emotional abuse/putting you down. Not letting you have contact with family or friends. Stopping you from having control of your money. Damage to your property. The Children’s worker recognizes that children who witness and/or experience violence, can have immediate and long term emotional and behavioral difficulties. The Children’s worker can provide emotional and practical support to the child and parent. She can help to:. Identify the needs of the child within the family context. Enrol the child in school or childcare. Advocate for the child with other agencies. Show the child how to express and identify their emotions. Develop self-esteem in the child.

Whilst we can provide support and accommodation: to women and children in the refuge. We can also provide ongoing outreach support after clients have left the refuge. Surviving violence or a crisis and creating a new start can be difficult on your own. The Outreach worker can provide practical support and emotional assistance with any of the following:. Advocacy on behalf of you to other agencies. For example centrelink, Housing, Health, Family and Children’s services and Police etc.
