Monday, January 2, 2012. While driving around Cape Coral, FL looking for burrowing owls, we came across a group of wild Monk Parakeets. These "pet looking" exotic birds were brought over from Argentina in the 1970s and some were released into the wild. They were able to survive, and their population in Florida is now over 100,000.
