Katie Lovely: March 2015
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 19, 2015. Things I *DO* Like About Sewing. So Positivity. What do I actually enjoy. About sewing, and the process of creating historical garments? Well, let's see:. Every so often, something will grab me. It might be a particular dress, or a painting, or maybe even a fabric. Whatever it is, it nabs my attention in a heartbeat and my brain just goes, " I must have that! Oh come on, who doesn't like shopping for cool things? I CAN be positive. When I really put my mind to it! This weekend, ...

Katie Lovely: March 2014
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 24, 2014. I started what I not-so-affectionately have been calling That Stupid Dress almost two years ago now, I believe. I liked the idea, I liked the fabric, and it should have been a really nice and fairly simple project. Well As of last night, That Stupid Dress may have redeemed itself. Maybe. Let's take a look at the evolution, shall we? Staring a year ago, when I'd already spent several months arguing with the dress:. I've barely even attempted any new projects in the past year so whe...

Katie Lovely: September 2014
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Monday, September 8, 2014. You know what's heartbreaking? Hand-sewing about 55% of a pair of trousers, including side seam pockets, and then realizing that they are about 4" too large for their intended wearer in all areas except the waist. Carpenter jeans: not a good Regency look. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Making a Foam Hat Block. Directional Knife Pleating (1860s Skirt). Bespoke Shoes Unlaced - a shoemaking blog. Passion for the Past. Romantic History Historical Clothing. And the ...

Katie Lovely: February 2014
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Tuesday, February 25, 2014. So, I've talked about my love-hate relationship with ebay before. Mostly, I love it and my wallet hates it. However, every so often there comes a listing for something that both I and my wallet love. The shawl pictured below is one of those items. The auction had three shoddy pictures, but I was in the market for black chantilly lace and so I figured, what the heck? So I put in a bid. And I won. And I paid, and I waited. And then it arrived, and it was BEAUTIFUL. My mom painte...

Katie Lovely: August 2014
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 28, 2014. Not dead, just married. Most likely nobody noticed, but I disappeared off the face of the internet for a while. Now I'm back, with a new name and a permanent reenacting buddy.er, I mean, husband. That's the same thing, right? Did I mention we got married at a Tudor mansion in the UK? Links to this post. Katie Lovely: Change of Plans
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2015/03/change-of-plans.html
Monday, March 2, 2015. Happy Monday, y'all. I think it goes without saying that I am NOT done with my February "Blue" challenge. I'd love to say it's because I had a setback with my fashion fabric, but that's not really the reason. Or at least, it's not the whole. So, you know, all good things. But very little sewing happened. Some did, though! It turns out that this slight change caused my previous thread setup (Americana quilting cotton bobbin, plain cotton all-purpose top thread) to not look quite the...

Katie Lovely: Stays, again.
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2015/02/stays-again.html
Monday, February 9, 2015. Remember those stays that turned out hideously too big, despite what the measurements SHOULD have been? Okay, so I measured, and I did not accidentally add 10". I made Rich double check my math and he agrees. Adding 5" was too much. Last night, I sewed up my mockup #2 and tried it on for size. Oh hey, actual compression and shaping! Well, this is looking more positive. Less saggy. All that good stuff. Why am I posting such crappy pictures when I have a tripod and a self timer?

Katie Lovely: Progressing Backwards
http://blog.katiejacobs.com/2015/02/progressing-backwards.html
Thursday, February 19, 2015. The next day, Rich started a new job! When I'm not making dinner or doing dishes or cleaning the kitchen, that is. Ugh. So yesterday I finally got my poop in a group and took some sewing with me to work. Since Rich now takes the car to his job after dropping me off in the morning, I have a whole hour for lunch, nowhere to go, no transportation, and it does NOT take me an hour to eat. Differences between the burn tests I conducted included:. So basically, the piece that I melt...
