Teaching In Cambodia

Hello again. After my stressed out post last week I thought I'd share just how much progress has actually been made in my classroom. Yes, progress has definitely been made. The main area of the room from the door. The other side of the room from the door. The blue table in this picture will eventually go out into the hallway. Where the girls will put their bags on top, and the boys will put theirs underneath. Another of tomorrow's jobs is getting that space sorted out and everything put away tidily.

Teaching In Cambodia: January 2014

http://teachingincambodia-kk.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

When is a trapezium not a trapezium? Why, when it's a trapezoid of course. There are some days when the English language is soooooo frustrating. What version should I use? Standard Australian English (SAE)? Living as I do in a land of many expats, from various corners of the world, I've had to learn some extra words and meanings. But what do you call a quadrilateral with exactly one pair of parallel sides? Oh the joys of the English language! I guess it's yet another situation where we have to think care...

Anybody notice anything wrong with this picture? 4th December 2014 - View from across the road. You can see our existing classroom building in the background on the left. 4th December 2014 - A closer view of the photo above. Hmm, I wonder if anyone can see a problem here? That's it for now. I'll get some more photos over the coming fortnight as things progress. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Snail mail may be old-fashioned, but I love it! On the edge of ordinary. Teaching In Cambodia: July 2015

http://teachingincambodia-kk.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Slightly smaller than our existing sets, this set will be perfect for lower grades when I add a few more ones cubes to it. Aldi had these excellent non-fiction books on sale for just $2.49 (RRP $14.99) and I stocked up my sticker supply as well. These were just $2 per packet with either 240 or 384 stickers in each. A big thank you to those who helped me buy these things. There's more in Brisbane to pack, but I'm hopeful it will all fit within my luggage allowance. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Australiana ...

Teaching In Cambodia: October 2014

http://teachingincambodia-kk.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

A looks at some changes in Grade 4K for the 2014-15 school year. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been back at school for eight weeks already, but it’s true. Admittedly one of those weeks was only two days long, but the first six weeks were full weeks. This summer I made some changes in my classroom as I prepared to implement “The Daily Five”. Rather than tell you about it, I thought I’d show you. The first thing on the right as you walk in the door is my new bookshelf! The next photos allows you to see h...

Kimsoeun and Katherine's Khmer Kronicle (main blog): Aussies overseas/living cross culturally blog collection

Aussies overseas/living cross culturally blog collection. Our other websites, profile, blogroll. Aussies overseas/living cross culturally blog collection. This page is a work in progress. So far its a list of blogs by Christian Aussies who live overseas, some I know, some I don't know but I most likely heard about their blog via a friend of theirs or shared community. I'd be interested to know if anyone knows of a list/site like this that already exists, or a better/different way of doing it. Which appea...

Family Slant: Cambodia: Sermon Notes (from a 4-year old)

http://dedertfamily.blogspot.com/2011/09/sermon-notes-from-4-year-old.html

Friday, September 02, 2011. Sermon Notes (from a 4-year old). I found Noah's sermon "notes" stuffed in the pocket of his church pants. While I do appreciate his artistic side I'm really scratching my head to find any remote connections between his notes and the sermon. Now that I think about it the figures on the bottom remind me of the last picture from the book "Five Little Monkeys with Nothing To Do." Hmmm. How do you get your young ones (5 and under) to be attentive in church? I used to live in Cambo...

Family Slant: Cambodia: The Start of Something New

http://dedertfamily.blogspot.com/2011/09/start-of-something-new.html

Monday, September 05, 2011. The Start of Something New. Happy Monday, friends! There are a few changes happening in this little space of the world wide web. This site is moving, but before sending you on over here is some further ado. Or perhaps a preface for the move. Before you know it you find Christian leaders posting facebook updates with short pithy sayings multiple times a day and posts with shocking titles. Is it a screen for marketing or gaining readers in order to promote self or God? Whew, now...

Family Slant: Cambodia: Loss

http://dedertfamily.blogspot.com/2011/08/loss.html

Wednesday, August 03, 2011. Calvin is still doing fantastic. Last night he slept from 11-8! I thought I woke on that solo vacation I've been dreaming about. But no, there he was snorting, smiling, and craning his head towards the light from the window. We haven't slept like that in almost two years. Loss comes in different ways. I've been thinking about my friend's mom with Parkinson's, a girl recently separated from her husband and struggling to care for her disabled daughter, a father fighting canc...

Family Slant: Cambodia: His Creation

http://dedertfamily.blogspot.com/2011/08/his-creation.html

Tuesday, August 16, 2011. Even the darkness is not dark to you;. The night is bright as the day,. For darkness is as light with you. For you formed my inward parts;. You knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you,. When I was being made in secret,. Intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance;. The days that were formed for me,.

Family Slant: Cambodia: Berry Delicious

http://dedertfamily.blogspot.com/2011/08/berry-delicious.html

Wednesday, August 24, 2011. Summer is the time. For warm berry-pickin' and mouth poppin' treats. Our favorite book for the season is Blueberries for Sal. By Robert McCloskey. I keep coming back to McCloskey, he's on the list of my favorite authors/illustrators and this book is one of his best. Join little Sal on a blueberry picking adventure. She does what all little kids do best while picking, stuffs her mouth rather than the bucket. Look familiar? This is the part where Noah starts grinning. The Wells ...

Family Slant: Cambodia: Are You My Mother?

Tuesday, September 14, 2010. Are You My Mother? Sophie reading "Are You My Mother? Sophie has assumed many responsibilities for Calvin. That night Calvin was not well and I was up the entire night. The tooth fairy responsibilities were completely forgotten. In the morning as I poured my fifth cup of coffee while jostling a screaming baby, Sophie arrived at the top of the stairs looking a bit crestfallen and bewildered. "Mom, my tooth is still there! The tooth fairy never came.". That night Darryl and I e...

http://dedertfamily.blogspot.com/2011/07/sugar-spice.html

Friday, July 29, 2011. And the tea party was just that. We had a grand time at our first real tea party put on by long-time friend and party extraordinaire, Mary. You can see her beaming below with one daughter on her lap and the other (the birthday girl) swishing around in her beautiful dress and hat. Mary has never done anything half-way. The girls sat at tables with real. Here's the birthday girl in the middle. These girls aren't posing but they sure are falling into their roles easily! I used to live...

Often I pick a type of book, and then sort through them by looking for the most interesting; however, when it comes down to option A. What is the deciding factor? The cover. How else should I shift through the thousands of books out there? You can tell so much by a cover. Is it a photo? Is it a painting? Simple changes, made personal:.

http://dedertfamily.blogspot.com/2011/08/one-of-many-gifts-god-has-given-is.html

Friday, August 05, 2011. One of the many gifts God has given is a friend I've never actually met, Kendra. Many of you have also followed her story linked from my blogroll. We shared a mutual friend in Cambodia and have walked the dark pathways together and have seen the Lord working out the same things in our lives. It's hard to explain the closeness that forms from walking through the same ways at the same time. Pray for comfort as they lay their little one in the grave. Isn't she beautiful? I used to l...

Teaching at the edge of chaos. December 31, 2014. My best bits from 2014. 1 Becoming a father. My darling daughter Erin joined the world in May. The last 7 and a bit months have been an amazing adventure, she’s brought a new perspective to my world and made me less tolerant of the frustrations I’ve felt for some time and I’ve acted accordingly. She and my wife Ros continue to be the driving force for everything I do. 2 The GCSE results for 2014. 4 Seeing protégés flourish. So what about 2015? I had some ...
