Teaching Little Apples: A First Grade Teaching Blog

Thursday, October 9, 2014. I haven't had time to blog or have a life since this school year started. There is definitely something about this school year that has got me more stressed out than I have ever been. Lots of changes in my district, but I'm glad to have a job, right? Anyway, I just wanted to tell you all that I will not be blogging from Teaching Little Apples anymore. Don't be sad! I have a new blog and I think the name suits me perfectly! Thanks for being with me all these years! I would say t...

Teaching Little Apples: A First Grade Teaching Blog: August 2013

http://www.teachinglittleapples.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 26, 2013. Tired is an Understatement! I apologize for not being around much but I was finally let into my classroom on the 16th. That entire weekend I spent slaving away at making my classroom look perfect (in my eye) for my little first graders. But guess what.I survived my first day of school! I just wanted to end this post with a sneak peak of my room. I promise to take better pictures and do a classroom picture overload on my next post and go into detail as to what my goals and pla...

Monday, July 22, 2013. So most of you have seen those number labels around clocks to help the kids identify time, right? Well, I'm taking it a step further and I've decided that instead of using the plastic yellow clock, I'm going to take those numbers and make it interactive. I will be laminating and placing magnets on the back of them to put on my whiteboard. I found the perfect circle frames from this lovely TPT Shop. Trust me she's got some great stuff! I also used the sketch font from here. It's alm...

Hooked on Bilingualism

May 10, 2012. Throughout high school and college I became obsessed with learning Spanish. I took classes, listened to music, and danced to music in Spanish. I read tons and tons of books in Spanish. I had a boyfriend that didn’t speak English and my private life became consumed with Spanish. I did everything I could to try to become completely proficient in Spanish. Are you hooked on bilingualism? When did your love affair begin? About the Author: Melanie D. McGrath is the founder and editor of Multi...

Mrs Wansink | Teacher on Training Wheels

https://mrswansink.wordpress.com/author/samanthawansink

A beginning teacher's journey back to primary school. Teacher on Training Wheels. I’m having an interesting split screen moment. I haven’t blogged in such a long time. It’s been partly due to the business of teacher life and projects which fight for priority. But it’s also been much much more personal than that. How often do our students feel the same way. Scared that their ideas are not valuable? That they’ll bore their audience…? How often do we push for students to speak up? So, I’m challenging ...

Tuesday, March 27, 2012. I use many cooperative learning structures each day in my classroom. One that is quick and easy for my chickadees to do is Team Line Ups. Line ups are great because they provide practice of social as well as academic skills. I usually use this for a quick spiral review of a math skill or for sequencing events. An explanation for how Line Ups are done can be found. 65279; Their favorite part is being able to do their team "Happy Dance" or Cheer when they are correct. Today was an ...

Sunday, April 29, 2012. I wanted to share with everyone a class made big book. Do you make big books with your students? My students love it. We read many different stories that had the same overall theme: "The Enormous Turnip", "The Enormous Potato", and "The Enormous Carrot". Then my chickadees created their own story following the story line but gave it a new twist. Hence, the birth of The Enormous Apple. I hope everyone has a great start to the new week! I can't believe it will be May in a few days!

Ever since i was a little girl, words have danced through my head and in my heart. I’m feeling low. The feeling fades when I write, and that’s why I write, to escape from myself. Even if I write about me. Something happens when my thoughts meet words and sentences, a space opens up, a space beyond any thought or sentence. Mdash; Karl Ove Knausgaard, Letter from Österlen.
