http://teachingspeckids.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 1, 2013. I finally was able to get some things done to link up with Tara and her Monday Made It. Let me tell you, my printer and laminator were getting a work out! I didn't make anything for my home, I hope to find something that I can make for another time. Anyways, here's what I've made so far. Here is a closer look at all of my creations with credit to those creative people whose generosity is greatly appreciated! Calm Tool Kit- From the Tpt store of Lynn Hubbell. I love these line up car...

Friday, April 19, 2013. Fourth Grade Common Core Workbook. Have you heard about this wonderful resource? If you teach 4th grade and need a good, quality resource for teaching using the new common core standards, this is for you! It would have saved me so much money having all the activities offered by this one book, rather than the bookshelf of resources that I've bought throughout the years! Check out the Fourth Grade Common Core Workbook. And if you have a blog, you can enter the giveaway, if you hurry!

Saturday, August 24, 2013. A long overdue posting. Wow, I just realized that it has been way too long since I last posted. I'm not sure where the. Weeks went, but I'm back in school. This year I'm teaching 3rd and 4th grade students with emotional and behavior disorders and they are keeping me on my toes! I've also tried Whole Brain Teaching in my room this year and love, love, love it! One of my little 3rd graders recites the rule, "Keep your dear teacher happy" after anyone says teacher! Tuesday, January 1, 2013. My own house hadn't really been cleaned for the past few weeks, so it was good to take down the tree and decorations and actually vacuum. The dusting will wait until another day! Tomorrow is my last day of vacation. On Thursday I have a work day and students come back on Friday! I don't know who set up this schedule! Not sure what I'll do if he doesn't come in. I'm hoping they have given me the worst case scenario! Then next week is back to normal! I'm linking up with Farley.

Sunday, April 14, 2013. My classes are reading Sign of the Beaver. Right now. This is a favorite by my kiddos every year. I usually have them keep a journals from the perspective of Matt the main character. My students have loved it. writing journal entries, doodling, and comparing themselves to him. Last Wednesday night I was perusing Pinterest. One of my addictions. And found a fabulous. We had a blast! If you have any other ideas with how the eye drawing could be used, please comment and let me know!

Creating Brain Wrinkles: QR Code Scavenger Hunt!
http://creatingbrainwrinkles.blogspot.com/2012/06/qr-code-scavenger-hunt.html
Thursday, June 28, 2012. QR Code Scavenger Hunt! I usually do a scavenger hunt every year with hard copies of the clues placed in envelopes and hidden around the school. I teach 6th graders, and this is their first time coming to the big, scary middle school, so this is a fun little way to show them around. This past year, a sweet little student asked me why I didn’t just save time/paper/effort and use QR codes. DUH! Thus, the QR Scavenger Hunt was born! Scavenger Hunt Clue Number One! I send the groups ...

Learning's a Hoot: What is Original? and a Freebie
http://learnings-a-hoot.blogspot.com/2012/08/what-is-original-and-freebie.html
Pin It button on image hover. Thursday, August 9, 2012. A while back, I posted a free Number of the Day on Google Docs. I was then notified by a seller on TpT that mine was similar to hers and that might cause her a problem since she was selling hers. I took mine off of Google Docs. Since then, I have had MANY emails requesting the Number of the Day download. That got me to thinking about "original". What does it mean anyway? How many sellers have that in a packet? I'm not trying to cause anyone any prob...

Teaching Public vs Private Behaviors. Teaching the different between public and private is important for so many reasons for our students with special needs. When teaching these concepts, I first talk about the difference between public and private places. We come up with a list and sort those places accordingly using visuals of one person versus multiple people. I created this sort from a boardmaker template and uploaded here on Board Maker Online. And are available in PDF or Boardmaker files. It is ver...
Breezy Special Ed: Visual Task Cards for Special Education
http://www.breezyspecialed.com/2015/08/visual-task-cards-for-special-education.html
Visual Task Cards for Special Education. I absolutely love using task cards for my special education students. They are easy to store, easy to use, and great for practicing a wide variety of skills! They can be used during direct instruction, for independent work, and in TEACCH / work boxes. Plus, I've created my task cards to be used for non-readers as well as readers so they can be used by any students in my classroom who are working on those skills. Click on the picture to check out each task card set.

Kitchen and Cooking File Folders for Special Education. It can be hard to teaching cooking skills in special education classroom, especially if you don't have a kitchen! I mentioned before how I love "tricking" my students into learning by working on concepts using file folders. They still seem to think they are games! Or at least they enjoy them. Some of my students will even choose to do file folder activities during their breaks. Sorting cups and plates vs. pots and pans. And they work on a variety of...

How to Submit Teacher Tax Deductions for TpT Purchases. So it's that fun time of year when we have to get all of our paperwork ready to submit for our taxes. I don't even do my own taxes and I still hate it! As teachers, we can claim $250 used for classroom expenses. I'm absolutely terrible at remembering to save my receipts for this kind of stuff, so I usually don't take advantage of it.until I realized that TpT purchases count for my classroom! UPDATE: This just moved on me and might have on you too!

Red Ribbon Week Poster. Anyone else doing red ribbon week activities this week? We are at my school and I like to have my students participate in at least some of the activities. Each class makes a poster to submit, and here's what my class came up with (after a google search, I can't take all the credit.). Isn't that too cute? I love the saying "Drugs are Despicable" and once you add the cute little minions (thanks to Learn.Create.Love. You just can't go wrong! Here's a few tips for carving pumpkins wit...

Thursday, May 26, 2016. Finding an Advocate or Attorney. As a parent to a child with has needed extra assistance in school, I have often wondered where I can find resources or experts that have knowledge to help me to help my child. As an educator, I have personally seen how difficult it can be for parents to receive help for their children. When a parent has access to affordable assistance, they are empowered to truly help their children. Good luck with your efforts to help your child.

We share that priority with others, though, because those students have parents who also care deeply for them. Every new school year, I am always very persistent to establish a positive relationship with parents. This means I am trying to contact them BEFORE school even starts. Labels: back to school. Friday, July 29, 2016. I have finally figured out what I want to accomplish with this blog! I realize that as a special ed. teacher, I should be really good at implementing goals. I can write and make a plan for my students, but for me, I struggle! My students just need extra social skills training and coping skills training. Even with all of that, I love it. I see the potential in my students and keep trying. Some days are harder than others to see the potential, but I have kept going back! 4 Leave work...
