teaching writing winter 10

Monday, April 12, 2010. I think the thing I appreciated most about this article was the simple fact that he struggled, and that that was okay. I definitely struggled with most of the assignments this semester more than I usually do with writing, but that probably helped me more than anything. Just learning that some things don't come easily, but at the same time recognizing that most of those same struggles are worth the extra work. Posted by Brittany Carter. The power of words. teaching writing winter 10: Our Students Can Dance

http://teachingwritingwinter10.blogspot.com/2010/04/our-students-can-dance.html

Thursday, April 8, 2010. Our Students Can Dance. This may sound silly, but I was watching a minute of America's Best Dance Crew tonight and I thought, couldn't anyone dance like that if they just learned the moves and had enough practice? And I thought couldn't anyone do anything if they were taught the right moves and had enough practice? If we let them know they can do it and give them all the tools and time to do it, they will do it. I disagree with you . . . I couldnt dance like that, ever. I love ho...

http://teachingwritingwinter10.blogspot.com/2010/04/findin-that-little-nugget-of-gold.html

Sunday, April 11, 2010. Findin' that little nugget of gold. I learned from participating just how difficult some assignments were, how long some took, how confusing some of my directions can be! I learned that teaching writing is a process, too.". I found this happening too as I'm sitting here, trying to do my own assignment for this unit plan. When I sat down to type it all up and I looked at my assignment sheet, I found that a lot of my directions were confusing. What am I supposed to do! Write will be ...

teaching writing winter 10: I love a good bash on the 5P

http://teachingwritingwinter10.blogspot.com/2010/04/i-love-good-bash-on-5p.html

Monday, April 12, 2010. I love a good bash on the 5P. I particularly liked what Ianacone said about students making writing a daily habit. I think it's extremely important that they write constantly because only in that way will they get the practice they need. April 12, 2010 at 6:36 AM. Heres the thing. I HATED when teachers made me write every day; I would grumble and scratch down something meaningless just to get the points. Do I just have to treat it like medicine and know that its doing them good?

teaching writing winter 10: Room for Creativity, Time for Mistakes?

http://teachingwritingwinter10.blogspot.com/2010/04/room-for-creativity-time-for-mistakes.html

Saturday, April 10, 2010. Room for Creativity, Time for Mistakes? I loved this article. It's the embodiment of a person being able to change and become better- in regards to English and teaching. Ianacone begins his teaching career as a nightmare. Honestly, how did he get sucked into the numeric teaching style? Formula writing; formula grading." Yikes. And perhaps the perfectionist in me, yet again, rears its ugly head. Take that, prescriptivists! April 12, 2010 at 8:32 AM. Teaching writing winter 10.

teaching writing winter 10: Exactly, Audrey

http://teachingwritingwinter10.blogspot.com/2010/04/exactly-audrey.html

Thursday, April 8, 2010. This post is partially a response to the reading, and partially a response to Audrey's post (see below). I was going to just leave a huge comment, but instead said to myself, "Self, you need more blog posts." So here we are. Johnny Got His Gun,. Something stirred inside me - what on earth could motivate this kind of passion? Yeah, its probably good that I didn't leave this as a comment. April 8, 2010 at 11:54 PM. But I can say that for you: Amen. Yeah, Im kidding. Incidentally, I...
