A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Tuesday, April 26, 2005. The Oral History of Bus People. After he grilled me on why I didn't become a doctor rather than a writer ("It's good money, eh? I found out that he came to the United States nine years ago, hoping to get an education. Although he regrets that he didn't get a college degree, he still "got more education than Columbia." He then lived in New York for 6 years, working. He really liked New York. "It is fun, you know? He asked. ...

A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Saturday, August 27, 2005. The Old Country Comes Alive. She was only a teenager when she ran away alone to the United States in 1945. I've always wanted to visit the Azores myself, and looking at all the photos and things Uncle Mike had brought back - including a giant pineapple from my grandmother's plantation - I just want to go so badly now. No more pictures," she finally said. "It was not so pretty when I was there.". From the airport shoves a book.

I finally saw the film version of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Isn't a warm and fuzzy book series, because Goblet of Fire,. The next installment, gets seriously frightening at the end. A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Tuesday, October 25, 2005. Feminism vs. Moms. Despite my Clintonian-era liberal ethics in almost all other areas of life, I’m pretty damn conservative when it comes to families. More to the point, I think mothers, if it is economically viable, should stay home with their kids. Being a Mom and having a career are each, on their own, overwhelming responsibilities, and I think it’s too much to ask of anyone to do both and do both well. Oh, come on! A Use...

A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Friday, July 09, 2004. Tennis Is A BITCH. . . BITCHY MOM #1, COMPLAINT #1:. I heard the warning in her tone - she was one of the "DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE COMBINE CLASSES - IF THERE ARE ONLY TWO KIDS, GIVE THEM EACH PRIVATE LESSONS! Paul couldn't defend us on that one to his boss, and now the game PIG is abolished. This really sucks, because now I have to deal with all these kids screaming, "We wanna play PIG! And she STILL had stuff to complain about!

A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Tuesday, July 19, 2005. Jess' Pensieve On Half Blood Prince. So I finished Half-Blood Prince. At 5 am this morning and it was amazing; definitely now my second favorite in the Harry Potter series, right after Goblet of Fire. Resurrection could be lame as Hell. I think it's a clue) even though I think a resurrection would be somewhat contrived, even if done well. But perhaps that's just my X-Files conspiracy mind talking, from years of watching a show ...

A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Monday, March 07, 2005. I Hate Stupid People Who Want Staplers. I've now worked at the Baker-Berry Library for almost three months, and I've come to a single conclusion:. Dartmouth undergrads are the dumbest, laziest people in the world. Not only are they generally demanding and really rude when things don't go their way, but they have some kind of horrendous expectation that it is my dream in life to make sure their panties don't get into a knot.

A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Wednesday, May 25, 2005. Evolution Is NOT Just A Theory. I was reading an article on THIS. Court ruling today, and I find it hard to believe that we are living in the 21st century and still calling Darwin the Devil. What are you doing South? Well, I say no more, South. You're like the lazy younger sibling that mooches off its older successful brothers and sisters, and we've had it. To quote another such rant. Just get the fuck out. Seriously, get with...

A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Tuesday, May 18, 2004. One of the things I always liked about going to Wheaton College. Then there were all the naysayers who thought that the idea of celebrating marriage in general was reprehensible. Why should girls graduating from college be encouraged to marry? This blacklash against the Hoop Roll is hardly exclusive to Wheaton. Wellesley. Has a similar tradition (shown most famously in the Julia Roberts' film, Mona Lisa Smile. Second, holding a ...

A relatively witty commentary on culture and society. Sunday, September 25, 2005. Cornmazing And Other Vermont Adventures. The key to being unbored in the middle of Nowhere, USA, is to drive around and find things to do that are unabashedly local, and therefore fun. So yesterday, some friends and I decided to take a beautiful fall day and embrace the rolling landscape that is Vermont. This year's theme for the overall design was "America.". The average time to complete the maze was 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
