A person who loves reading. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. Ref my moaning about the kitchen - I know, I know, it's such a first-world problem. Thus it was described by my daughter's boyfriend in a scathing put-down some months ago. But that doesn't mean it is not a problem. I still feel stress and aching joints and muscles. I must add that I have actually chucked out some books. Contrary to my usual practice, which is to replace any book I have chucked out (possibly in a fit of misguided tidying). In one of ...

Bookblog: November 2013

http://www.teambooklover.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

A person who loves reading. Monday, 11 November 2013. More About Wolf Hall. Recently, Hilary Mantel was the guest on Radio 4's Book Club. Book Club is a lovely Sunday afternoon treat, ideal for those replete and resting off a large Sunday lunch indoors on a winter day, perhaps while ironing. Jim Naughty (pronounced Knockerty, for any foreign readers visiting here), was the interviewer. He kicked off with the question, "What inspired you to write "Wolf Hall"? Unfortunately, beautiful though Sutton House.

Bookblog: Walsingham

http://www.teambooklover.blogspot.com/2015/07/walsingham.html

A person who loves reading. Tuesday, 28 July 2015. Part of the ruins of the refectory wall, Walsingham Abbey, Norfolk. Shakespeare as ever so succinct, so evocative, captured scenes like this when he wrote of the:. Bare ruined choirs, where late the sweet birds sang" (Sonnet 73). Another poem, again from the sixteenth century, is attributed to Philip, Earl of Arundel (1557 - 1595). Bitter, bitter oh to behould. The grasse to growe. Where the walls of Walsingham. So stately did shewe. Where she did stand.

Bookblog: Kitchen, Rant.

http://www.teambooklover.blogspot.com/2015/08/kitchen-rant.html

A person who loves reading. Tuesday, 11 August 2015. It looks so simple, doesn't it. Just some new worktops, new sink and taps, new cupboards. But oh, it hides a multitude of painful days, painful months. It took me a month to clear out, and pack elsewhere in the house, 24 years worth of clutter from the old kitchen and utility, together amounting to by far the largest space in the house. Then commenced two months of work, starting on the 25th June and still not quite finished. I lost the "no new kitchen...

Bookblog: February 2015

http://www.teambooklover.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

A person who loves reading. Monday, 16 February 2015. The historical records of who burnt whom during the Tudor reigns are worth revisiting. In our country (England), in 1538, a heretic named John Lambert, after being pronounced guilty by Thomas Cromwell, suffered as follows:. Sources Gilbert Burnet ed 1841, John Foxe, Book of Martyrs, ed 1837-41). Whatever spin Ms Mantel puts on it, believers of all faiths were burnt for heresy if the people currently in power opposed their beliefs. Everything I Know Ab...

St Bloggie de Riviere: Looking back at my first ever post

http://www.sarahhague.com/2011/12/looking-back-at-my-first-ever-post.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Thursday, December 01, 2011. Looking back at my first ever post. Over in the wilds that make up Mammasaurus. Domain, there is a blog hop link-up to post our first ever blog post. This weekend they are going to see their dad, so taxi duties will be replaced by. a void. I have writing work to do, but can I be arsed to do it? Maybe if it's raining, there's nothing on tele and no one to talk to. (unlikely, on Twitte...

St Bloggie de Riviere: London Eye-fulls

http://www.sarahhague.com/2015/07/london-eye-fulls.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Thursday, July 30, 2015. The two months of summer here in Montpellier are the worst. It's too hot, and I'm tired of it. Fortunately, I missed two of the hottest weeks this year by going to England and Wales on holiday. Some people come south to burn on the beaches, I go north in search of heat relief. I found it too. I don't think it got above 20°C. Meanwhile, it was scorching ( caniculaire. We started the original ...

St Bloggie de Riviere: Greece – What is really going on...

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Tuesday, July 07, 2015. Greece – What is really going on. I don't usually repost posts from other sites, but this one from NationofChange. Made such sense about what's been going on in Greece that I decided to copy and paste the whole lot. We know the result of the vote now of course - a resounding NO to austerity. Well done the Greeks! Frankly, there's not a lot to choose between Monsanto and Goldman Sachs et al.

St Bloggie de Riviere: Rambling Post

http://www.sarahhague.com/2013/01/rambling-post.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Tuesday, January 08, 2013. If the UK was in France, I'd go back. This is a completely nonsensical thing to say but I'm sure you know what I mean. I was mooching round Sainsbury's on Saturday thinking how much I loved the variety, the malt loaf, the sausages, the crisps, and in Waitrose the lovely white squashy bread, the variety and the ready meals (or was that M&S? I want to marry M&S ready meals). I admit, I'm a b...

St Bloggie de Riviere: Meet the Ambassador

http://www.sarahhague.com/2013/03/meet-ambassador.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Moi taken by a pro with soft focus and Photoshop. A couple of years ago. Meet your new Ambassador. Impressed? I know I don't look much like an Ambassador but that's because I haven't spent any years in the diplomatic service, but I have been living in Montpellier for absolutely ages. That, plus being a cheery soul (! As Ambassador, working together with another one, I help set up monthly get...

St Bloggie de Riviere: Is Gower any Good?

http://www.sarahhague.com/2015/08/is-gower-any-good.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Wednesday, August 12, 2015. Is Gower any Good? The Gower peninsula is the bit that sticks out between Swansea and Llanelli. My mum was born in Mumbles a few miles from Swansea, a picturesque village of Victorian quaintness, steep narrow streets, pier, lifeboat house, lighthouse, lots of pubs and a village castle. Perriswood Archery and Falconry Centre. Outdoor archery for kids? Oxwich Bay in the background. Meanwhil...

St Bloggie de Riviere: British Women Slouch

http://www.sarahhague.com/2012/01/british-women-slouch.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Sunday, January 29, 2012. If you have any thoughts on this, I'd love to hear about them. To start with, I never buy those books, mainly because I live in France, see French women every day and don't need to read about someone else's fantasy based on her own insecurities, and this is what it boils down to - insecurity. British women, I believe, are deeply insecure. Grandparents saw the failings of the child-centred a...

St Bloggie de Riviere: Plein les Yeux - Giant's Teeth Mountain

http://www.sarahhague.com/2011/10/plein-les-yeux-giants-teeth-mountain.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. Monday, October 10, 2011. Plein les Yeux - Giant's Teeth Mountain. View from hotel room. On Day 2 of our weekend to Mont Ventoux, we awoke to this view, a mountain of giant's teeth. Looking down, we could see this colourful blend of autumnal shades. The river was just on the side of the bushes on the right. Even pretty villages have to deal with poo. Our next stop was the Col de Perty. Where we afterwards separate f...

St Bloggie de Riviere: Who Am I?

http://www.sarahhague.com/p/who-am-i.html

St Bloggie de Riviere. Things French, life in France, general wittering and the odd rant. I'm a Brit living in France since 1989, a French tax-paying, locally working resident. Previously married to a Frog, I'm now divorced and still here, near Montpellier surrounded by beautiful pine woods. I have two boys (b 1996 and 2001) and a cat, Ulysse who picked me out at the local animal rescue centre to be his owner. I have a second job writing educational resources and books for children with Bongo LLP. Apart ...
