Daniel Glaser work: Pulling together some videos
http://danielglaser.blogspot.com/2013/12/pulling-together-some-videos.html
Wednesday, December 11, 2013. Pulling together some videos. For one reason and another I thought would gather together some of the talks and discussions I've done that are available online. There's a very informal one I did as part of a SameAs. Meetup on education and neuroscience. And I did this one called " Is finding art useful a problem? In an Art and Mind. Dinner at the lovely GV Art. I did quite a long lecture " Are we all interdisciplinary now? Organised by the Pars Foundation. Links to this post:.

Why counting counts | annaperman

Posted on April 10, 2013. Dancers talk to themselves a lot. When learning a new step, when out on the dance floor, they often use little phrases that fit nicely into that speech-like flow of the music – like at 1.15 in this video. Check out how Manu and Nicole fit lots of phrases like ‘1, 2, you know what to do’ with a move that’s usually known as ‘around the world with points’. Phrase 4 – And repeat that same AAAB phrase. Phrase 6 – And back to that that AAAB pattern. Phrase 9 – Back to AAAB. Phrase 10 ...

Leading, following, and how your body keeps you on your feet… | annaperman

Leading, following, and how your body keeps you on your feet…. Posted on February 15, 2013. Lindy hop, like many other dances, from foxtrot to samba, is a lead-follow dance. You probably know how that goes. One person, usually a man, leads another person, usually a woman (not always though, and with some pretty awesome. And when it all goes a bit wrong…. But this post is all about when it goes right. Dance legend Evita Arce once took us through her drills to work on balance, and her introductory exercise...

Why Ginger Rogers is my dancing hero | annaperman
https://annaperman.wordpress.com/2013/03/13/why-ginger-rogers-is-my-dancing-hero
Why Ginger Rogers is my dancing hero. Since I’ve done a few posts about balance, I just thought I’d share this gem – a great example of athleticism and skill. And it does bring to mind the famous quote that ‘Ginger Rogers did everything (her dance partner) Fred Astaire did, except backwards and in high heels’. I was pointed to this by Loz Yee, a great teacher and solo jazz dancer, who taught us the hopping move she does in this clip. Posted on March 13, 2013. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. What’s in a headline? Quite a lot actually. | annaperman

What’s in a headline? Quite a lot actually. Posted on September 26, 2012. Inflammatory headlines about ‘3 parent babies’ are OK because they draw attention to the debate using methods to change germline mitochondrial DNA. That was the concensus among the audience at a debate run by Progress Educational Trust last night on Avoiding Mitochondrial Disease. It’s also something we have reinforced throughout our lifetime. Partly because of our sense that we will turn into our parents, for good or for ill&#...

8216;one small rectangle in which the artist can make an ordered universe’. Posted on March 12, 2013. Before he was asked to illustrate the 1962 textbook,. The Golden book of Biology,. Rather than try to represent the finches exactly as they are, Harper simplified them to their basic components, while trying to preserve the bare minimum of features to communicate their ‘finchiness’. This allows the viewer to focus on the thing that matters most – the variation of their beaks. Harper may not have represen...

My mission to stop myself falling over | annaperman
https://annaperman.wordpress.com/2013/02/28/my-mission-to-stop-myself-falling-over
My mission to stop myself falling over. Posted on February 28, 2013. I can handle pain. I’ve kept dancing even when my feet are black and blue with people treading on them. I fall over and keep going, regardless of the pain. The humiliation though, that’s another story. Spinning is pretty much the bread and butter of lindy hop, and it’s the thing that makes me fall over most. So I’ve spent a lot of time watching what other dancers do to keep their balance despite the dizziness. Finally there’s, the...
