February 25, 2016. October 24, 2016. A thankfully uneventful and pain-free six hour flight with relatively smooth transitions in the airports - I couldn't have asked for a better trip. We were greeted by bright sun, clear blue skies and early spring blooms.all making me feel like we were gone for two months, not two weeks. We drove directly … Continue reading Back in Berkeley. March 21, 2016. April 6, 2016. Oscar and I arrived back in Berkeley a month ago Tuesday. While I’d (naively) thought we’d be able to continue at the slower pace we’d grown accustomed to in NJ while recuperating, Oscar and I were both thrust back into normal life…with carpooling, logistics, meetings and appointments. To start, Oscar (unbelievably) went to school for a few hours a couple of days after we got home. Yes, at 2.5 weeks! Here are a few pictures from the last couple of weeks:. Back to the books.

January 23, 2016. January 24, 2016. It's amazing how your vocabulary expands when you have a kid with special needs. When Oscar was in the NICU I remember feeling like I'd been thrust into this new world of words that I didn't comprehend.hypotonia, hyperphagia, hypogonadism.and then later I was met with an onslaught of developmental terms: processing speed, receptive language, motor … Continue reading The Spirometry Test. February 22, 2016. October 24, 2016. Oscar is already two weeks post-surgery, and we’re heading back to California tomorrow! Otherwise he’s doing well. His stomach pain has diminished and we’re still getting by on Tylenol and Gabapentin for his surgical pain. He’s tired though. He wakes up at his normal time and reads for a bit but then he retreats to the couch to rest. He needs at least two naps a day and is lying down frequently throughout the day. Getting Back On Track. We were greeted by bright sun, clear blue skies and early spring blooms…all making me feel like we were gone for two months, not two weeks. We drove directly from the airport to Paul’s office so Oscar could say hi. O for years gathered to welcome him home. A few photos from our walk today around the Berkeley Marina.

February 13, 2016. April 8, 2016. We got the news around 10am yesterday morning - The radiologist confirmed that Oscar's GI system was sluggish but not in crisis (always a concern in PWS) and Dr. C agreed that we could go home! While the paperwork was completed we distracted ourselves with a makeshift "book club". We're reading Game Seven by Paul … Continue reading “Home”. Out of Surgery and Resting. February 8, 2016. January 29, 2017. I'm struggling with this in my writing right now - who cares about one family's navigation of the PWS landscape with everything that's going on in our country right now. I certainly don't. Oscar could be having an hour-long meltdown in his bedroom over the loss of screentime for lying. (He says he didn't. I know … Continue reading Who Cares? February 10, 2016.
