The intelligence is distributed over the network. That is, any controller runs it own small operating system (Femto OS). With a shell. The system can be configured by logging in to the controllers and issuing commands. No central PC is needed for everyday operation. Features of the Femto OS. Every task in the each priority gets an equal amount of time. Choose between preemptive or cooperative on a task by task basis. Shared Stacks for tasks. Possibility to save ram by letting tasks share their stack space. Save only the registers that are used on the stack at taskswitch. Separate OS/ISR Stack Space. The OS (ISR) has its own stack space. Power save on Idle. The idle task can be used to save power. Every task gets the same amount of execution time, so no starvation.

I have made an installer that lets you pick the gcc version you want, the xmega version is almost ready and we are building applications for embedded devices with LoRa/Sigfox. Since these require an all low battery usage, Femto OS is particullary well suited.
