A Temporary Omnivore in Paris

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Monday, September 8, 2008. While visiting Houston last month, I dropped by  Brazos Bookstore. 160;and picked up a copy of Susan Bourette’s  Meat:   . A book that truly made me appreciate my own lack of street cred.   . Bourette, a Canadian journalist, spent four days undercover in a pork processing plant and, disgusted by punitive working conditions and the sheer gruesomeness of the job, vowed to swear off meat.   . This woman has street cred. Make trips to any farms, or ki...

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris: Amsterdam: Pannenkoeken Madness

http://temporaryomnivore.blogspot.com/2008/07/amsterdam-pannekoeken-madness.html

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Thursday, July 31, 2008. There are many reasons to visit Amsterdam: serene canal views and public parks, historical landmarks like the Anne Frank House, museums housing unrivaled collections of Van Goghs and Rembrandts, infinitely friendly locals.   . But there is a certain image of tourists who come to Amsterdam, and, as a recent weekend trip to the Dutch capital taught me, there is more than a grain of truth in the stereotype.   . Ice cream is almost always on hand for sm...

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris: A Temporary Omnivore's Manifesto

http://temporaryomnivore.blogspot.com/2008/05/temporary-omnivores-manifesto.html

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Saturday, May 17, 2008. A Temporary Omnivore's Manifesto. I chose to conduct an independent research project on vegetarianism in France this semester, and my findings, which I am in the process of trying to draw out to 25 pages, are as follows:. The French aren’t really into vegetarianism. People ask if it’s difficult to be a vegetarian in France. It’s not as easy as it is in the States, but it’s certainly not impossible. For my remaining two and a half months in Paris.

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris: Other Omnivores' Recommendations

http://temporaryomnivore.blogspot.com/2008/08/other-omnivores-recommendations.html

A Temporary Omnivore in Paris. Sunday, August 10, 2008. Alas, due to constraints of time, budget and metabolism, I was not able to try as many kinds of meat in Paris as I wanted to.   . But for the sake of others looking to increase their intake of dietary cholesterol in the City of Lights, I’d like to share some of the restaurants and dishes that were recommended to me but that I wasn’t able to experience firsthand. Dan, author of the charming and ebullient . 160;at 15, Rue Léon Jost.   . Do you have an...

Sit, Billy.: An Introduction

http://sitbilly.blogspot.com/2012/05/message-from-camp.html

Later this month I'm moving to Costa Mesa, within walking distance from the "SoBECA District." "SoBECA" is an acronym for "South on Bristol Entertainment, Culture and Arts," which doesn't really make sense. But moving on. SoBECA's two big features are The LAB. Little American Business") and The CAMP. Which are located across from each other along South Bristol and anchor this Orange County anomaly. And I can't figure out what I think of them. And unfortunately for these two landmarks, The LAB's.

Sit, Billy.: Breakfast, Part I

http://sitbilly.blogspot.com/2013/06/breakfast-part-i.html

Breakfast, Part I. Bacon and eggs were not something my parents made for breakfast. Instead, despite my mother being a nutritionist, breakfast in our house included a rotating cast of microwaveable churros, grocery store pumpkin pie and apple strudels, and Toaster Strudels. With the icing packets. Yet no artificially colored cereals! Which is why I now buy Lucky Charms from time to time.) Or snacks! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sometimes, I read. I don't know if I should buy it for myself or for one of my Twin Peaks-. Obsessed friends. If I bought it for myself I would have a really cool poster. Plus, it would go well with the apartment's Sol LeWitt walls (another post for another time). But if I bought it for a friend, well, that would make me a pretty cool friend. You can buy it here.

Sit, Billy.: January 2012

http://sitbilly.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

I don’t consider myself a blogger, but I do have a blog, and it’s a new year—such a new year, in fact, that it’s still okay to send new year cards…right? 8212;so why not start blogging again, even if it’s only every three months? I began Sit, Billy. In September 2007 and since then have accumulated a number of draft posts, some of which I thought I would share, so I can delete them, finally. Excerpts from a chat session with “Megan F.” at j2 Global online support) (2008). Ann} I cannot be credited at all?

Sit, Billy.: One Bouquet, Four Rooms

http://sitbilly.blogspot.com/2012/05/one-bouquet-four-rooms.html

One Bouquet, Four Rooms. Cup, the ceramic or porcelain cup that looks crumpled, but it was a gift so I'm not sure. In the bedroom, I've placed a couple of lilies that have yet to bloom in a square glass vase. And in the living room, a couple of unidentified violet flowers in a sake bottle add a touch of color to the white coffee table. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Sometimes, I read. Sit, Billy.: February 2012

http://sitbilly.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html

Last night I received the following fortune in a fortune cookie:. Better is the enemy of good. Show me the beast! But there is so much more to it. And BAM—you are my sister or my daughter and our dad or my husband has a birthday coming up, and it could be lawnmower (or not at all), and what do I say now? Sure, I can say, "Great! http://sitbilly.blogspot.com/2012/06/east-borough-spring-roll-costa-mesa.html

Bánh Mì of the Month. East Borough Spring Roll. COSTA MESA - A foodie or gourmet I am not. A gourmand—perhaps. Mostly because I enjoy eating and tend to overeat. Take this afternoon, for example: I wasn't particularly hungry but because it was on the way home, I stopped at East Borough. And ordered not one, but two items from the menu. Having already tried the Vietnamese Ham Bánh Mì. With pâté, which you have to request) and Bò Kho Beef Stew Baguette. Of course, I have no complaints about this place, exc...
