Losing the Thread: February 2008

Friday, 29 February 2008. I want to post a link to Joy Nash's You Tube video "A Fat Rant", since I can't post the actual vid here. Http:/ uk.youtube.com/watch? Joy has a really good point to make about the way overweight people are regarded. I saw it on Sister Decadence's MySpace blog and had to add a comment. This is an amended and expanded version of what I said there:. Joy is SO right. She might be technically overweight. but she's bloody gorgeous. Sometimes an 18 depending on fit and style, but I'm f...

Losing the Thread: April 2008

Monday, 28 April 2008. Musings on the Teachers' Strike. There was a lot of fuss in the media last week about school closures due to the teachers' strike. Apparently, up to a third of schools were closed or partially closed last Thursday. I do support the principle the teachers were striking for. In part. Though what's so great about the Housing Ladder that everyone's so darn keen to get on it anyway? The problem of inadequate pay has become endemic in society. The people who form the backbone of soci...

Hathor the Cowgoddess and Mama Is… Comics. Best Comics by Year! March 13, 2013. April 9, 2014. A bit ago I was passed this article: Fearless Formula Feeders. I spent some time mulling it over and wondering to myself what did they fear and why? Formula feeding is the socially acceptable way to feed babies, so it can’t be a fear of ‘public opinion’. What could it be a fear of? I’ve pondered whether it might be me, and you, and other breastfeeding mothers, are we scary? More comics are coming…. March 7, 2013.

On the cusp of adulthood in America. Sunday, January 23, 2005. This has been too long to stay away from a blog. Here's stuff I wrote earlier:. Do you know what I hate about adults? Do you know what I particularly loathe about them? No, that's not what I hate about adults. Do you want to know what I really hate about adults? Posted by Leticia @ 2:17 PM. First You're not dead! Second, its not as bad as it seems. I was just in the same place a year ago. Trying to figure out what I wanted to do with ...But b...

On the cusp of adulthood in America. Thursday, July 29, 2004. Well, the guy who does HIV testing at the community center calls me "sweetie." He is also the perfect example of a guy who could play the guitar on a park bench and you could just sink your head into his lap while he strums the guitar and thinks about how beautiful life is. Until we get ticketed for loitering, that is, but that's all we got. I think I'll make him wear green. He'd look good in green. and white pants. But he does call me sweetie.

On the cusp of adulthood in America. Sunday, August 29, 2004. I was thinking about death again, as I am wont to do. If, as before, "me" as a concept is a collection of electrical signals, and thus an idea, and ideas never die. And when someone goes comatose, they don't remember anything when they wake up except for dreams; and thus, after they are knocked out, they feel that they woke up immediately after. And, when I die, my neurons go cold and their material disperses. Posted by Leticia @ 7:51 PM.

On the cusp of adulthood in America. Saturday, January 31, 2004. We have a culture of obnoxiousness. Exhibit A: T-shirts on middle schoolers. Today’s fashion is to wear a shirt that says (I kid you not), Stop looking at my shirt and get a life, If I throw a stick, will you leave? And the proliferating You smell. It criticizes the Bush budget. We kill people in numbers exponentially larger than those of other countries (with bloodier pasts), we elect wrestlers and movie stars in hopes of solving fiscal cr...

On the cusp of adulthood in America. Friday, April 30, 2004. I got an E-mail saying that everything I wrote about Conway's Life was wrong. Here we gooo. Okay, I'm going to assume that you are a very smart man, you graduated from Cambridge with honors and that you know absolutely what you are talking about. Mea culpa. I'll try to be more careful next time. I don't have a penis. But I had you there, didn't I? Posted by Leticia @ 11:47 PM. And you know that deputy undersecretary of defense Lt. Gen. ...Are w...
