Termite and Tarantula RR. My personal blog for models I build and my model railroad. Thursday, October 29, 2015. The past few months I have been building a Gn15 micro layout. It is 2x4 feet. When finished it will have two structures, this is the first finished small structure, it is a lean-too mine office. This structure. It is entirely scratch built except for the Grandt Line door. Real glass windows. When placed on the layout, the open back-side faces a stone wall along a cliff face.

In this seasons winter months I also finished my submarine kit from Pegasus Hobbies #9120 1/144 The Nautilus Submarine Kit. I had it on display at Caboose Hobbies for a couple months this spring. I painted it to look similar to a Westside Logging Co. heisler. ON30 Termite and Tarantula Heisler #12. Built by Gerald Styles. Rivarossi HO scale heisler locomotive chassis. Soundtraxx DCC sound decoder, with synchronizing cam. Cab is partial Wiseman Model/V&T shops heisler kit, part scratch built. Loco cab frame is scratch built in styrene.

It needed some TLC; a few parts were missing or broken and the weathering wasn't in the best shape. It was a PBL Foreground model so it did have PFM sound. I'll admit I was pretty nervous running a train like this without scenery (nothing to stop the train from hitting the floor should gravity take over). With the helix installed I wanted to make sure there was ample clearance for the rotary, so I ran a rotary train. I could have just pushed the rotary around to see if it would rub any of the supports but this was way more fun. Plus the sound of a double header is really cool. This is a section of the old layout from the other house that was saved. I still need to remove the trees and paint the backdrop.

This stand is off the D&RGW narrow gauge 4th division. It's a bit odd as it has two targets, not just the red one. Joanna Miller of Caboose Hobbies tells me this came from Durango.
