Respecting the Earth, creating fine wines. Hang, Baby Hang. Let’s all drink (and think) locally! Oh, what a winter we are having (and it’s only just begun! January 5, 2009. Well, we’ve had quite the winter so far and it’s only January 4! We’ve seen an interesting snowfall just before Christmas – enough to make the going near impossible (poor retail merchants), followed by an and ice storm and then more snow. A total of 24″ was received here at the vineyard, the most snow in 40 years! And tagged snow dogs.

Respecting the Earth, creating fine wines. Newer posts →. Why fall is my favorite time of year. October 2, 2008. I love the fall. Harvest time fills my heart with joy! The smells of the season, of ripe fruit overlain with a cool, earthy aroma make me glad to be alive. Of course, it helps that we love to cook – we love fresh ripe tomatoes, pastas, grilling outdoors and, of course, great red wine! The Pinot Noir harvest is in! October 2, 2008. October 1, 2008. We walked the vineyard prior to harvest, the g...

Respecting the Earth, creating fine wines. Oh, what a winter we are having (and it’s only just begun! Let’s all drink (and think) locally! January 11, 2009. Back at home, I was contemplating my navel after dinner (over a bottle of Ponzi’s Dolcetto from Oregon no less) and I was thinking “what can I do about all this? 8221; – remembering back to my gastronomic excursion of earlier, I flashed on the wine lists! 8220;My restaurant does not offer any local wines you say” – Eureka! 8211; that’s my point!

Respecting the Earth, creating fine wines. Another Day in Paradise. Oh, what a winter we are having (and it’s only just begun! Hang, Baby Hang. October 25, 2008. The weather here in Oregon is spectacular right now and all forecasts are for more of the same i.e., unseasonably warm and dry weather for the next 10 days (one long range forecaster interviewed recently, predicts an unseasonably dry November even). If that’s the case, I’m going to. Hang, baby hang. Lso great if you’re a bird, or a yellow jacket!

Eating Well in the Northwest: January 2012
http://www.eatingnw.com/2012_01_01_archive.html
Eating Well in the Northwest. Gastro-geek adventures in the great Northwest. Wednesday, January 11, 2012. Running with the Bull. We ended 2011 on a high note, with a visit to Portland’s Bull Run Distillery. We arrived during a lull and had a chance to chat with co-founder Patrick Bernards, and talked him into stepping next door and showing off their two behemoth 800 gallon, custom built stainless stills and the tuns of rum currently in fermentation. Medoyeff Vodka by Lee Medoff of Bull Run. Point Rider a...

Eating Well in the Northwest. Gastro-geek adventures in the great Northwest. Tuesday, October 26, 2010. Port in a Storm. The first winter storm ripped through this weekend, sucking massive amounts of moisture from a typhoon far out in the Pacific. The deluge quickly washed away thoughts of any outdoor activities, so we decided to mix and bottle a batch of Huckleberry wine. Betsy's alchemy, getting the proportions of wine, cognac and syrup just right. Once the bottles were full, we added a sealing cap.
Eating Well in the Northwest: November 2010

Eating Well in the Northwest. Gastro-geek adventures in the great Northwest. Sunday, November 21, 2010. Grifola Frondosa, Maitake, King of Mushrooms, Hen of the Woods, Dancing Mushroom, Cloud Mushroom or in a word - Yum. I love maitakes. They are not native in our area, and are hard to find in the grocery store, so I get my fix from Rainforest Mushroom. PS, I also found some awesome unpasturized cider at the farmers market that has started the transformation into what I hope will be a great hard cider.

It was a quiet on a weekday afternoon and bartender Katie walked me through some of the selections and I walked away with a bottle of Oregon's own Blue Mountain Cider's. It was great for sipping, and made a wonderful accompaniment to homemade chicken pot pie. Cider Blogs and Sites.

Eating Well in the Northwest: A Severe Beeting
http://www.eatingnw.com/2010/10/severe-beeting.html
Eating Well in the Northwest. Gastro-geek adventures in the great Northwest. Saturday, October 2, 2010. We had a lot of fun with this one, probably as much fun thinking up titles as actually doing the project. This was a good year for beets in our garden which helps make up for lackluster performance on the part of tomatoes (You know who you are.). We picked roughly 40 lbs. in our final picking, gave some away, made beet salad, beet soup and decided to pickle some. In the end we had 31 half pints of beet...

Terra Vina Wines | Respecting the Earth, creating fine wines
Respecting the Earth, creating fine wines. Let’s all drink (and think) locally! January 11, 2009. As a matter of fact, we went out to dinner last night in the Pearl District in downtown Portland. Things were pretty much their usual vibrant self, though I did get a parking spot out in front (hope this is not a bad omen). Anyway, we did our best to stimulate the economy – even went to yet another establishment for a lavish dessert course (complete with a 10 year old Tawny port). 8211; that’s my point!

Terra Vinctos Peregrinus – An earth bound travling girl
An earth bound travling girl. June 29, 2015. June 29, 2015. So I find that even with the best intentions of writing every day, I don’t. Originally this was to be my journal that I would be faithful to and spend a bit of each day writing. I have since discovered that my new lifestyle isn’t conductive to trying to do the same chore every day… I cant even seem to remember to water my poor plants. The real problem is, how do I learn how to be a housewife? How do I find my passion in the drudgery? May 22, 2015.
