terry miura • studio notes: Yes, I Do Use Photo References

http://terrymiura.blogspot.com/2015/03/yes-i-do-use-photo-references.html

Terry miura • studio notes. Terry Miura • Studio Notes. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. Yes, I Do Use Photo References. 18 x 18 inches, oil on linen. Yes, I do use photo references. Hardly ever for landscapes, and usually not for in-studio figurative works. But I need structural references when I'm painting cityscapes and figures in environments outside of the studio - like this one I'm posting today. Here's the reference photo I used to make the painting;. What do you think? You bet. For me, photo referenc...

terry miura • studio notes: Black and White Figure Studies

http://terrymiura.blogspot.com/2015/04/black-and-white-figure-studies.html

Terry miura • studio notes. Terry Miura • Studio Notes. Friday, April 24, 2015. Black and White Figure Studies. One day last summer, I gave an assignment to my class; do a black and white oil study, using your own short-pose (5 - 20min) drawing as a reference. Although very difficult, I thought it was a great assignment that forced you to really think about many aspects of figure drawing and painting. So a couple of weeks ago I finally completed my one hundred black/white studies, almost all of them done...

terry miura • studio notes: Simplifying Cityscapes

http://terrymiura.blogspot.com/2015/05/simplifying-cityscapes_20.html

Terry miura • studio notes. Terry Miura • Studio Notes. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. 36 x 36 inches, oil on linen. I had a request from a student to talk about how I go about simplifying when painting cityscapes. If you've ever tried painting an urban scene, you know it can be very challenging, what with all the complex man-made elements that must be drawn correctly in perspective. The top painting, A Long Afternoon. Is set up so that there is very little perspective drawing. You're looking straight at a...

http://terrymiura.blogspot.com/2015/05/pratique-des-arts.html

Terry miura • studio notes. Terry Miura • Studio Notes. Wednesday, May 6, 2015. I am very happy to be included in the current issue of Pratique des Arts, a French art publication. This is an issue focusing on the art of portraiture and the figure, and I was asked to be a part of it. There is a six page feature on me and my work How cool is that? So to have this part of my repertoire recognized is really special to me. Still, I think it came out nicely. The layout is hip and the printing is pretty goo...

Michael Reardon: June 2013

http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 17, 2013. I know I promised to show more of the Alcatraz comic book illustrations, but once again I've been tardy. Here is the page that shows one of the escaped prisoners washed up at Fort Point in San Francisco. He did survive (for details you'll have to buy the book :). The main challenge here is that this is a true nocturne. He probably arrived here after 9 PM in December. Quite dark. So I used a bit of license with the phosphorescence of the waves. Michael Reardon: Plein Air in Monterey

http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2015/04/plein-air-in-monterey.html

Monday, April 20, 2015. Plein Air in Monterey. I just got back from the Plein Air convention in Monterey last weekend, and wanted to share some of the paintings I did while there. At the end of every day, the entire group went out to paint. Day 1 was Asilomar, Day 2 found us at Lover's Point, and the third day we were at the beach in Carmel. It's quite a scene with around 700 painters at work. I'll post more about the convention soon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Michael Reardon: July 2015

http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 9, 2015. Imagined landscapes are one of my favorite painting subjects. Untethered to reality, I can invent any landscape I want. During my many years as an architectural illustrator, I worked on numerous projects that were almost purely imaginary. One of my last clients, a sheik in Dubai, rarely sent me plans and elevations. Almost always, his architect sent images and a visual description (usually all in one Photoshopped conglomeration) and let me go to town. I then choose one that appeal...

Michael Reardon: May 2014

http://michaelrreardon.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html

Wednesday, May 21, 2014. This is a small watercolor of the Spanish village of Calella de Palafrugell, the location of next May's workshop in Spain. I took quite a few liberties, especially with the foreground in order to get a composition I liked. Nothing new about that. The story here was the water. Looks like a great place to paint.
