The topiaried shapes of box, bay, hornbeam and lime in these pictures, give a solidity and sometimes humour to the gardens, that hold the strong or skeletal shapes of them through the winter months and the contrast of form and texture through the growing season. All these plans some dating from 1999 have been mouldering away in folders of one and sort another, some under beds as the only space large enough and I thought it was time they had an airing! To be able to continually experiment with texture is a great delight. Again the light plays such an important role in highlighting the exquisite subtleties of flower, stem, leaf and hue. Needless to say, being a resident of this city comes with many perks; however, that’s not what this post is about. I’m here to expose an uglier side of Portland, one full of aggression, deceit and shameless bribery that will send you running for a town far away without its own TV show; someplace much less trendy, like Midwest City (that’s actually the name of a city).

Tessa Hobbs Garden Design
Over the last years I have been feeling my way into a style of gardening that I feel more and more comfortable with. In the early days I was much influenced by Russell Page and Vita Sackville-West (as many of us were! I work with a good friend and colleague, Roger Balmer, and many of the hardscape pictures on the site will be as a result of our collaborative design. The planting is my own, in most cases literally! I hope you will like my new website and enjoy the pictures as much as I do!

Переплет-склейка, украшен листочками-вырубками, веточками, акриловой капелькой и грибом, полит алкогольными чернилами и "припорошен" белой акриловой краской. Размер - 4 сантиметра от сгиба до кончика листа. "Налипшие" листики торчат на пол сантиметра. Очень даже настоящий, в нем можно записывать что-нибудь). Отправить по электронной почте.
