Tessa's Kitchen

Sweet to savory, real life recipes from a working mom who loves to cook. Wednesday, April 18, 2012. I love chocolate, who doesn't? My husband however, has an obsession, the darker, the richer the better. This recipe is about as rich as it gets. Imagine taking those expensive little chocolate truffles that you get about 4 in a bag of and making a pie with just that thick creamy center? Well, that's this pie. 1 1/4 cups crushed chocolate cooking crumbs (think Oreos without the centers). Cocoa powder to dust.

Tessa's Kitchen: Homemade Mashed Potatoes

http://tessas-kitchen.blogspot.com/2012/04/homemade-mashed-potatoes.html

Sweet to savory, real life recipes from a working mom who loves to cook. Monday, April 16, 2012. How simple can it get really? We get the instant kind, now and then, but our favorite is straight up and simple. Homemade mashed potatoes. Something of home in that I think, something that reminds me of dinner at Gramma's, of simple dinners around the table. The best part? It's so easy, it's ridiculous. Butter - 1 or 2 sticks depending on how much you're cooking. Salt and Pepper to taste. Once the potatoes ar...

Tessa's Kitchen: Rhubarb Compote

http://tessas-kitchen.blogspot.com/2012/04/rhubarb-compote.html

Sweet to savory, real life recipes from a working mom who loves to cook. Friday, April 13, 2012. This is a sort of compote, but it's a bit of a cheater, very easy and a great use of rhubarb if you have any in your garden. It's also a great way to introduce kids to something that they may not otherwise come to love. If you don't have a rhubarb plant in your yard, many stores and farmer's markets sell it and it's fairly inexpensive. About 3/4 cup flour. About 1 to 1 1/2 cup sugar. 1/2 to 3/4 stick butter.

Tessa's Kitchen: Simple Roast Chicken

http://tessas-kitchen.blogspot.com/2012/04/simple-roast-chicken.html

Sweet to savory, real life recipes from a working mom who loves to cook. Monday, April 16, 2012. What's better than a roast chicken for dinner on the weekend. It's simple, easy, and folks will think you've slaved away for hours over something that you can do in less than 20 minutes and then stick in the oven. I use an herb butter. 1 large roasting chicken. 5 or 6 celery stalks, cleaned and chopped into about 3" sections. 5 or 6 cloves of peeled and chopped garlic. 2 to 3 cups of chicken broth or stock.

Tessa's Kitchen: Easter Dinner - Roast Lamb and Potatoes

http://tessas-kitchen.blogspot.com/2012/04/easter-dinner-roast-lamb-and-potatoes.html

Sweet to savory, real life recipes from a working mom who loves to cook. Monday, April 9, 2012. Easter Dinner - Roast Lamb and Potatoes. A cut of lamb, could be the leg or the shank portion of the leg as we did, or really any nice lamb roast-style cut. One fresh package of thyme or a large bundle of thyme if it's coming from your garden. About 10 pieces of garlic, fresh, peeled. Olive oil for drizzling. One stick of salted (or unsalted) butter. Salt and Pepper, maybe a bit of garlic salt if you like.

Tessa's Kitchen: March 2008

http://tessas-kitchen.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html

Sweet to savory, real life recipes from a working mom who loves to cook. Saturday, March 29, 2008. Slow Cooker Chicken Tacos. An online friend passed this recipe onto me and it's become one of our staples. Simple and so quick to do, the best part is you can control just how spicy you make it so it's easy to tailor to different tastes. 1 lb chicken breasts. 1 packet taco seasoning (or more depending on how spicy you like). 1 large can diced tomatoes. Remove chicken and shred or shred in slow cooker. Are j...

A Poppy Garden: Contentment

http://apoppygarden.blogspot.com/2012/04/contentment.html

Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Contentment. Something I'm striving for. I see so many people around me unhappy with the little things in their life that they should be happy about, but they focus on every little negative thing. If I can find one thing each day to be happy about, that should be a good day. The little cracks may be there, but when it comes down to it, they don't mean a damn thing. A Poppy Garden: New Additions

http://apoppygarden.blogspot.com/2012/04/new-additions.html

Wednesday, April 4, 2012. We bought a couple of new additions to the garden already this year, my favorite of course being my large stone buddha. I saw him weeks ago at the garden shop, wrapped up on a pallet and fell in love with him. I waited and found him tucked in with banana trees starting to come up in the greenhouse the other day and convinced the hubby that he really needed to come home with us. Also, my hubby loves the little lantana plants so we've put a couple of new ones for the summer. T...

A Poppy Garden: Just me and my spring garden

http://apoppygarden.blogspot.com/2012/04/just-me-and-my-spring-garden.html

Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Just me and my spring garden. My wild oriental poppies are coming up slowly, but in a few weeks, they'll be leggy, delicate dark red blooms, waving at me every morning when I leave for work. My husband thinks they look like weeds, and they do a bit, that is until they bloom. And once they bloom, they are incredible, gorgeous and short lived. I love it, you can hack it apart, split it, ignore it and it still blooms all summer and into the fall. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A Poppy Garden: Patience and Peonies

http://apoppygarden.blogspot.com/2012/04/patience-and-peonies.html

Wednesday, April 18, 2012. We planted a couple of Peony bulbs in our garden about 4 years ago. One has gotten quite a bit larger, still not really 2 feet tall yet, but has bushed out a bit and is actually going to bloom this year! It's been so long, I can't remember what I planted. Pink doubles? At the house I grew up in and my Gramma's house as well, there were always rows of peony bushes. It seemed like everyone had them. We had little round vases especially for those blooms. You'd cut one ...

A Poppy Garden: Hostas and the Lazy Gardener

http://apoppygarden.blogspot.com/2012/04/hostas-and-lazy-gardener.html

Wednesday, April 18, 2012. Hostas and the Lazy Gardener. I'm a lazy gardener. I admit it. The hubby takes care of all the hard stuff, but I like to putter about. One plant we grow takes almost no work from either of us. My kinda plant! Hostas are super easy, are perennials in most areas, grow rapidly and take very little care after the first year. We have about 20 varieties in different spots depending on how much sun or shade the bed gets. Our local farmer's market has a couple of stalls selling hosta s...

A Poppy Garden: April 2012

http://apoppygarden.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Wednesday, April 18, 2012. I always used to think of ferns as those great big hanging basket, Boston Fern types that were either on old ladies front porches or withering away in the corner of an office somewhere. Over the last few years, I've started a quiet love affair with ferns of all types. From the standard Japanese Painted Fern to the spindly Ostrich Fern, to an odd little Ghost Fern and Dixie Wood Fern I just found, I love them all. Hostas and the Lazy Gardener. Friday, May 25, 2012. My Years at SMS. After all of the years that I spent at SMS, I'm finally leaving! I've been here since kindergarten and now I'm going on to the high school! I have so many good memories from this school, and I'm sad to leave, even though I'm excited for high school! I've had special memories in almost every grade that I've been here. One of my favorite memories from eighth grade is going up to ELC with the whole grade! Liana, Me, and Grace. Links to this post. Wednesday, May 23, 2012.
