A Home on Poplar Ridge: January 2015
http://poplaridge.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
A Home on Poplar Ridge. Life on the hill. Thursday, January 29, 2015. Chickens are Not Smart. I mentioned before that the hens love their new, spacious, warm and bright space so much that they don't like to go outside any more. This wouldn't be a problem except that we had been keeping their food and water outside because they tend to poop where they eat. Since they weren't going outside, they stopped eating and drinking enough and their egg production went down drastically. Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

A Home on Poplar Ridge: July 2015
http://poplaridge.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
A Home on Poplar Ridge. Life on the hill. Thursday, July 30, 2015. As ludicrous as it sounds, that is exactly what I did this morning. Even more horrific (BLUSH), I paid about $36 for those weed seeds! So much for explaining my crazy behavior this morning. Consequently, I've been able to get some work done in the garden. On Monday, the girls and I went to Idlewild. This afternoon we headed South to take in "Beauty and the Beast" the musical. It was great fun, especially afterwards as we strolled up t...

A Home on Poplar Ridge: April 2015
http://poplaridge.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
A Home on Poplar Ridge. Life on the hill. Thursday, April 30, 2015. I normally would be manically gardening by this point: broad forking, digging, weeding, sweating, and loving every minute of it. Of course, my hand would REALLLLLLY be hurting while I did all of that too. After work today I decided to take the dogs for a walk since I missed exercising this morning. I walked through the woods, and kept an eye out under the trees for morels (didn't see any! The ferns are beginning to unfurl. The weather ha...

A Home on Poplar Ridge: 4H
http://poplaridge.blogspot.com/2015/08/4h.html
A Home on Poplar Ridge. Life on the hill. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. J decided to join 4H this year, in their Rabbit Club. I have been thoroughly frustrated with this club for the past 8 months, because it has been extremely disorganized. I also felt like we had to learn on our own how to take care of her rabbit, as well as how to show it. J's red ribbon is hanging above her, and. Chaz is in his cage, though he's hard. A separate part of showing your rabbit in 4H is Showmanship. This is where the 4H-e...

http://poplaridge.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
A Home on Poplar Ridge. Life on the hill. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. We all accompanied him even farther North for a follow up today, where he was given the good news that after tonight, he will be allowed to sleep lying flat in bed again. Since we both took the day off today, and since he still has vision issues, (as most of the lower visual field of his left eye is obscured by a bluish bubble,) he asked me to work yesterday. My routine has been shot all to heck. Thursday, June 25, 2015. Up close, it looks...

A Home on Poplar Ridge: December 2014
http://poplaridge.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
A Home on Poplar Ridge. Life on the hill. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Here's what I'm planning on doing today:. Labels: wheres the bear. Thursday, December 25, 2014. Along the lines of new traditions, JP found a recipe for Candied Bacon that he wanted us to try. It was a simple recipe, actually. First you lay out the strips of thick cut bacon on a cookie sheet, and cover them with a brown sugar and spice mixture. Next you bake them in a 250* oven for 2 hours. The Great Trifle Tragedy of 2014. We are sl...

A Home on Poplar Ridge: September 2014
http://poplaridge.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
A Home on Poplar Ridge. Life on the hill. Thursday, September 25, 2014. An article that I read recently really made me think more on this subject of parenting styles. (You can read it here. They do have a giant portion of their lives scheduled right now: school for 7 hours, soccer practice during the week and games on the weekend, music lessons and practice during the week, etc. These are things they CHOSE to do and ENJOY doing, and so (even though I might complain mightily at times) I try to make it...
